    We need sticky " How to ask help"

    hi, i think we need a sticky that showing people how to ask help here. it would make our job, less time consuming and much more effective. i always trying to help people but time is really important for me and other proffesional techs. i fix 10-15 laptops in a day. i check messages here when i have time to drink a coffe etc. We should define in a sticky, what kind of info must be written to make it easier to answer.

    I agree with you, I think it's necessary to give the motherboard code and the first basic measurements, also the complete model and brand will help a lot, when someone wants to find the forum for a laptop with problems.

                  You're good. A laptop per hour. Nice. Wish i can do that. But all i get is crappy faults that no one can fix, and they end up here with me.

                  Anyway, good thinkin about the sticky thread.

                      i'm working nearly 17-18 hours in a day. 12 hours in the place where i'm working in, rest hours i go out and collect laptops to fix at home extra. Time = money for me.

                            Hi - Its a nice idea and if you come up with a wording you will probably be able to get it stickied by asking a mod

                            BUT It probably will not work as you think it will , mainly because most enquirers
                            do not read stickies, they do not read previous posts to see what is required.
                            Many think you are paid for your services on here and you are clairvoyant.

                            This was going to be a short reply but it has ended up a ramble - sorry.

                            Most of my posts relate to monitors with Bad caps and a few of us have tried before to get people to post information we need to get started.
                            I pinched various bits and ideas from other members - Retiredcaps and others and on most of them just sent the following reply - saved on notepad so quick to paste.

                            We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

                            Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

                            Examples of what is needed

                            Others have their own message and some have it as their signature.

                            Depending on what response you get to that , you decide if you want to spend more
                            precious time trying to help that person or move on to the next post - may sound harsh but its your time and you can choose. If they dont or cant do a bit to help you help them then just move on. I once had someone "mending" a £500 tv and he wouldnt buy a multimeter - never got to ask if he had a soldering iron.
                            buy a £3 multimeter. Another spent 3 pages of queries and more than one thread along the lines of what do we think is wrong with it and he wouldnt/couldnt take the back off!!

                            So based on your original question you need something like

                            Welcome to the forum-

                            We can help a lot more if you please post full details of your laptop/netbook
                            ( Make /Model/Version etc and number from the main board and barcode sticker.)

                            If it is a power query please confirm you have tried another adaptor or tried your adapter on another machine.

                            If you need help finding a component, a picture always helps - hours have been wasted looking for example a BOD 18SZ when it was a 8D0 IB52"

                            You can quickly delete bits not relevant if for instance they have done some tests.


                            Tho from my recent query on a netbook I could forgive anyone for getting the
                            name of the board wrong - that would be why pictures would help.

                            Also although stickies are stuck they can be still written to - see retiredcaps 2 sec to black- a great aid now being messed up with posts. Even the FAQ forum which asks people not to post questions here has a post almost daily.

                            Hope this helps - still not got my n250+ sorted - must get on with it though a replacement mboard looks the easy way out -I am used to old dells with chunky components I can at least see and board designators so I dont have to guess what the part is

                              Also true. I believe that people think that we are some kind of magicians, and can repair devices through a phone call or a forum post with telepathic abilities.

                              But this sticky wouldn't hurt, and it doesn't require much time to put up.

                                  There already is a FAQ thread on this IIRC... and no, I'm not talking about that BS "gold guide".

                                  I agree that most people who would benefit from that thread probably wouldn't care to read it...
