Looks like a protection diode. Or it could also be a tantalum capacitor. Any marks on the board that indicate what it is (i.e. D for diode or C for capacitor)?

Can you remove it from the board? Then you can test it in Diode mode, then Ohm mode to see how it shows on your meter.

First thank you very much for your replies
Removed it from board tested it on esr and reading is "open circut or low capacitance" .
Its place on the board is marked "DT1"
I have googled it no end and cannot find exact replacement but I am not knowledgeable enough to know what would suffice instead
Again thank you very much for the help

Ok here is my plan. Follow at your own risk
Cant find a schematic for the TJ68
I did find one for the TJ75.
Searched for DT1 and it is near the adapter socket.
Searched for the part number on the schematic 6SBMJ24APT-GP and it is a GLASS PASSIVATED JUNCTION TRANSIENT VOLTAGE SUPPRESSOR. Data sheet is attached but I have no idea how to test one - perhaps others do?

There is of course no guarantee that it is that part as it has no product marking. It will give you another avenue of enquiry to see if you can find a GPJTVS with that marking

That would certainly make sense given it's location and "DT1" label (Diode Transient)

Part should show open or very high resistance from pin connected to Vin to pin connected to ground. If it's shorted, it's dead, if it's open it won't give any protection, but it shouldn't interfere in the operation of the PC.

To check that the device is still working correctly, connect a variable power supply across the device with a 22k-47k ohm resister in series. Voltage across device should rise until the clamping voltage is hit, about 22-26 volts, then stay at that voltage. Transient Voltage suppressors behave essentially like REEEEAAAAALLLLLYYYYYY heavy duty zener diodes.

Absolutily brilliant and a huge thanks to you all
Did the test and its working -----but I found a short in the start cable where someone had pinched it so with any pressure it would switch off laptop suddenly.
I thought it was the (Diode Transient) because there was no reading but now I know how to test such things
I cannot thank you guys enough and defo know where to seek EXPERTS help in future
              Thanks again
