Well this is embarassing, after spending countless hours on this device, I found my generic power adapter was faulty and not boosting the board to 20v. 🤬
The board is now 100% functional. I bought a donor board from ebay, I removed the damaged SN25A12 ACE CHIP from the same location of the donor, I also brought over the corresponding ROM chip. (probably not necessary, but the online discussions say they are paired)
Lesson Learned: When taking voltage measurements, always try a different (higher watt power adapter). The SN25A12 chip is replaceable from a donor board, I...

Thanks Mon, yes its quite vexxing. I havent seen any late model macbook repair video's on Youtube. I assumed Apple made these near impossible to repair.
I did manage to buy a activation locked A2992 logicboard from ebay. I removed the burned ACE/SN25A12 chip on the patient and can confirm it will run off battery power even without the SN25A12 chip installed. I was able to recover the data for my client.
Now on to the repair, I removed the SN25A12 IC from the donor board, reballed, and installed it on the patient. AliX has the stencils. The board still recieves 5v,...Leave a comment:

A2992 USB PD Controller SN25A12
Hi gang, I havent seen much of repairs in the industry and online about 2023+ Macbook Pro logicboard repairs. Seems like most repair videos stopped at around 2021 models.
Im working on a 2024 Mac Pro A2992, with a blown USB-C SN25A12 IC causing a short.
Are these chips replaceable? or protected by serialized firmware?
Can macbook run on battery power if the faulty one is removed? -
Macbook Pro A1990 - Battery not detected after connector torn off
Hi Gang, Im working on Macbook Pro A1990, the battery connector was torn off during friend trying to replace battery. I soldered on the connector back, and created traces. The battery does charge (according to amp meter), and does power on battery only. But the signal detect line maybe done incorrectly, and the macbook shows "X" over battery icon, and "Service Recommended" on new battery
Can somebody point me to which of these connector pins is responsible for battery detect/data line? Pin 4 on schematic had a nub on the trace, im not sure if that is important,... -
Macbook M3 A2991 Speaker Audio Amplifier IC
Im working on a 2023 Macbook Pro M3 A2991, that had a liquid spill, has no sound. Corrosion found near Speaker Audio Amp IC. Chip ID SN012776B0,
I did find a SN012776B0 on A2442 model, but the sub and replaced it, no go. Anyone know if these audio amp IC's are cross compatible between 2021-2023 models?... -

How to clean Liquid Metal from under CPU?
Hi all, Im working on a board, that my customer brought to another shop, and smeared liquid metal all over the board.
The laptop powers on, then shuts off. I noticed traces of Liquid Metal near the edge of the CPU, but I fear some maybe underneath.
Has anyone ever tried Ultrasonic cleaning, or compressed air to remove or agitate the liquid metal? -
Lenovo Legion 7 - Help Identify IC
Hi gang, its a long shot, but working on Lenovo Legion Pro 7 motherboard NM-F091, and trying to identify this component near GPU with marking "eHFQH" that is burned and shorting the board. Looks like power management IC
I couldnt find any schematic or boardview. The CPU side also has same chip. Any way to identify this chip? or take measurements from the good chip to determine what it is?
Any help would be appreciated... -
What do color variations on SMD Capacitors mean?
Hi All, I am working on a motherboard, with 10uf caps in a series. One of them is blown. The spares I have are 10uf dark brown, and the original ones in the photo are light brown/tan.
#1 Does the cap color have any meaning? i.e. size 0603/0805, voltage, etc? is it ok if same value, different color? I only have the dark brown caps
#2 These caps look like they are in a series, is it necessary to swap all of them or just the bad one?
#3 Can any problems arise from using a higher rated uF capacitor? ie using 15uf instead of the 10uf?
Any help would... -
TANTULUM CAPACITORS SHORT QUESTION ASUS GL504GS
Hi Im working on repairing this Asus GL504GS, and with meter in continuity mode, getting short to ground on all of these GPU related tantulum capacitors and .03ohm value in Diode mode (image with arrows). are these readings normal for this type of Board?
I tested the caps on another non working board, and get the same readings.
If abnormal, is it safe to inject 1v, 3-4amps to these to monitor with thermal cam?... -
Blown Inductor on WD My Passport
Hi Guys, my WD My Passport drive powers on, then powers off. Ive taken out the motherboard and identified a blown Inductor. Im trying to recover my data only
Reading between leads show nothing. If I removed this Inductor, what would be a suitable replacement? am I correct that its a ferrite Inductor is to just filter noise?
Ive seen people just bridge them, any harm in replacing it with a differnt value Inductor?
Lastly am I correct in thinking there is no polarity on the smd component?
Thanks!... -

Lightform LFC mini PC,Blown Component - Need help identifying or Next Steps
Hi gang, I have 2 of these Lightform LFC mini PC's, and both suffered a blown component near the 12V power input. Im assuming its a voltage regulator,
But Im unable to identify the component or its marking. (The best I can make out is M48i)
Can anyone help me clarify what this component maybe? or what would be the next troubleshooting or logical step to try next? Schematic is unavailable
I removed the IC for better clarity of traces...5 PhotosLast edited by SMDFlea; 12-29-2023, 12:13 PM.
