Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
Got any old 40GB Maxtors laying around? Looks like they use the same Micron RAM.

Re: Polymer replacement for Wet cap
If it's by the power connector, it's probably either the input cap for a VRM, or decoupling for the memory. FM 1500uf 10V is about halfway between WG and WX in both ESR and ripple rating, so would probably be OK.
A 1500uf 6.3V polymer should be even better.
Replacing wet electrolytics with polymers is not a black and white, one rule fits all, situation. In the output of CPU VRMs where ESR is king, it's quite common for engineers to specify HUGE capacitance solely because it's the only way to get sufficiently low ESR...

Re: Rubycon caps identification
Rip one open with a pair of wire cutters.
Assuming they are still within their rated specs, I'd use them. If they're paper dielectric, they would leak current like a resister. Apply 600VDC across it and measure the current through it....

Re: Samsung HL67A750 DLP with bad caps!
Keep in mind the endurance ratings are at either 85 or 105 degrees, and essentially doubles for every 10 degree drop from there. Assuming a 45 degree environment, that's over 3.6 years for 85 deg. caps, and for 105 deg. caps that's over 14 years. Also, the cap isn't expected to to die after it's endurance hours run out, it's expected to still be fully in spec. How these numbers equate to the real world is a completely different matter of course.
BTW, my hlt6187sx is still going strong. About a week after I replaced...Last edited by LLLlllou; 02-20-2017, 07:32 AM.

Re: Identify Tantalum capacitor
They are, but keep in mind that Ebay is a cesspool of counterfeit and crap, and that Tantalum caps have a lovely habit of exploding and catching fire when they fail. You do the math....

Re: Windows 10 benefits - Are there any?
Only one good thing about Win 10, it's free. I can't tell you how many Win XP and Win Vista PCs I've Installed a semi legal version of Windows 7 on, before upgrading to full on legal Windows 10. Makes resale value go from "absolutely zero" to "at least it's worth my time".

Re: Suggestion for Panasonic Replacement Cap
ESR on FM and FR are lower than WB, but ripple is also lower. if you have room for 22mm height, 35v FR will work.
For some reason Digikey doesn't show ESR, just impedance, which is essentially the same....

Re: Suggestion for Panasonic Replacement Cap
UCC KZE is an almost exact match. Same size, same ripple, slghtly lower ESR, and same 5000 hour endurance.

Re: Rubycon MBZ leaks in storage!
Contrary to what PCBONES said, it just doesn't make any sense to me that Panasonic would make two different series with identical specs. It's MUCH more likely that the FLs are equivalent to HN/MCZ. The tolerance of my ESR meter is insufficient to verify with any certainty, just as it can't reliably distinguish HMs from HNs.
DAMN YOU PANASONIC FOR NOT RELEASING THE FL DATA SHEET!!!!!
Either way, FJ and FL are just about as good as you can get with wet electrolytics. Even Dell USFFs can't kill them....

Re: Isolation Transformer for TV repair
You could run 3 or 4, or more, of those in parallel, should cover just about any tv's power needs.
When I was about 16 and extremely short on funds (IE, had to beg for money from my parents) I bought 10 35VA 120/12 volt surplus transformers from All Electronics. Wired all the primaries in parallel, and all the secondaries in series. Made a nice 350 watt isolation transformer for like $20 bucks. Still have it today, though I don't get to use it too often anymore.

Re: Dumbest 'electronic' mistake you ever made
Lets see, dumbest. . . I was 8 or 9, decided I needed to know what would happen if I put a hanger across the pins of a lamp plug before plugging it in. Hanger welded itself to the plug prongs. Luckily I didn't get electrocuted, and circuit breaker tripped before anything really bad happened.
One time I put my hand on a heat sink to feel if it was warm, got a nice 200+ volt DC shock.
Latest dumb thing, put a Panny FM 2200UF 16V cap in backwards. "pop-fissssss" scared the shit outta me when I hit...

Re: hacking Dlp hlt6187s Motherboard bypass or fix
Sell it on ebay!
I just picked up a BP94-02303A from ebay, $85 shipped, works like new.
Seller "stanman2242", he seems to get more every 2-4 weeks. Also picked up a used red LED from him for $35, didn't need it, but the red LED goes out often on these models. My next HLT related purchase will be a new DLP chip. With any luck I should get another 8-10 years out of my beloved TV.

Re: Nichicon 6800uf 56wv CE 85c replacement
?????????
ALL polymers are better than wet electrolytics, what's your point???
When someone starts making 6800+ uf, 50+ volt, polymers your post may become relevant.
BTW, looks like the Nichicon LS series is the current replacement for the LK series, but anything with 3 amps of ripple current, or better, should be fine....

Re: Emac Step Down board recap
"united chemicon EKY 35volts 680uF" no such series as EKY, you probably mean KY.
"Panasonic m 1000uF 16V" no such series, M is the Logo for matshushita, the parent company of Panasonic.
In order to tell if they are acceptable replacements, we will need to know manufacturer, series, voltage, capacitance, and physical size in mm, of each original capacitor. Replacements must have same or higher ripple current rating, and same or lower ESR.
Any cap...

Re: hacking Dlp hlt6187s Motherboard bypass or fix
You've probably gotten the board by now or given up, but hopefully this will help someone with the same issue.
Not sure about the first two, but the BP94-02303C is definitely NOT an exact replacement. The BP94-02303C has a ribbon cable for video out instead of DVI. The BP94-02303C is used in the HL-Txx87SAX series, not the HL-Txx87SX. For some reason it's listed on all the parts sites as an exact replacement. The original part for the SX series is the BP96-01833A.
Mine died last week,...
