are these chips supposed to get so hot that even with a heatsink they cant be touched??

0-70c operating temperature according to the data sheet.
I wouldn't have thought it should be too hot to touch though. I've seen them in laptops and they aren't heatsinked. -

hmmm.
i have 2 pci cards.
one netgear - naked.
one chinese - with a sink and frankley better made.
i tested the chinese one and just idling for 15mins without any data transfer it was generating some serious heat - but worked fine when i fired up firefox for a test.

All my 8169 chips on the ethernet boards I have stay fairly cool.
The only thing on these boards that get hot are the VRs on the boards.Comment

the netgear was screwed,
but i decided to look at the regulators on the chinese one and the resistance between input and output was only a few k - very suspect.
they are 1117's - so i'll pull then in the next couple of days and meter them off-board.Comment

If it's a real rtl8169 it should only average about 0.5W - this should be enough dissipation to feel something but it should not burn your finger off nor need a heatsink (unless it must stay cool).Comment

I've seen a lot of hearsay that rtl8169 chips are poor performers but no actual benchmarks. I do not expect it to match top cards but from my experience with them, they are more than "poor" - they're quite acceptable for many uses. Is there a benchmark where the rtl8169 is less than 60% the speed of another ethernet solution, and how often does that benchmark happen in real life?

I have peltir element glued to heatsink with something thick and sticky like putty... it cant be separate with force or heat without risk of breaking ceramic or damaged semiconductor layers due to force (eg if try twisted, pulled, lifted)... method that I am using is a single thread for needle (thin and firm thread of pure polyester that cant break with bare hands without glowes), and using it like a saw between heatsink and peltir. I holding a heatsink with knee against table. It slowly cut throug putty and release glued parts. It is slow proces, but preserve undamaged component and heatsink....

I'm looking to upgrade the heatsink on the main processor of my TV's motherboard for better cooling performance.
The current heatsink is a square-shaped one (2.8cm x 2.8cn) with a basic design, and I believe a more efficient heatsink could help with thermal management and potentially extend the life of the TV.
I'd appreciate any advice on the best type of heatsink to use, specific product recommendations, and tips for installation.

First proper SLI board I get so wanted to play around a little bit since I got a couple 8800 GTS.
Everything done with random parts I had lying around.

I have RX26PG2 graphic card with incomplete original heatsink, only aluminium plate... but in original solution it look like such bad termal design that I asking if is proper fanless heatsink be adequate replacement ot better... what you think? Till powering on, it is propper hot......

Hi, I'm repairing this Chinese SG2701B01-7 panel. There isn't much information about it. The original part for the panel is a CSOT CS601C regulator. I can't find anything commercial on Aliexpress; there's only the CS601 without the final 'C'. They claim it's a variant. But will it be compatible? Well, my diagnosis on this screen is a video problem; the image is practically black, although there is HDMI communication. The LED light is on (backlight), but there is no VGL, no 3.3V, and no VSS.
