    Sony SDM-HS73 dead

I bought this Sony monitor brand new about 7 years ago, I'd have to say it's the best monitor I've ever used!
Then today it just wouldn't power on... it's as dead as cactus. I haven't done anything to it either. I just moved it from one side of the desk to the other (cables disconnected of course) and now when I plug it in, it won't power on AT ALL.
No power, no light... just dead.
Where should I start looking here?

    Thanks.

okay, just cracked the thing open and took a look. I took the secondary side cable off the power board and measured all the voltages... it was getting all 12V and 5V power... no problems there... then I disconnected the AC power cable and plugged the 12V and 5V lines back in and for a split second it came on!
Then I plugged the 240V AC cable back into the wall and it came to life again! Looks like oxidation or the like on the 12V and 5V cables. So it's fixed again
Minus two broken mini plastic clips on the way out

I have a similar problem. Mine has all the badcaps replaced but still no image. Just at the first start, without PC connected, i have the litle image with message: PC CABLE NOT CONNECTED. If i plug VGA cable into the monitor with PC on, led start to blink in green continously. The main buttons does.nt work but only the power (led button).

        Any other hints?

It sounds like it is not detecting the VGA signal so you probably having problem on the logic/scaler board. Not detecting signal can be due shorted protection diodes on the VGA signal line. Get the pin out of the VGA signal pins, then check tose pin against ground to see if the signals has shorted out. Also need to check voltages on the logic board at the regulator IC, etc.
Service manual, not sure how complete it is.

If the mon. wasn't detecting vga signal it showed "no signal".. or at least do not switch off with a blinking led.. or you not explained well, what does if you switch on with the pc connected?

Have you tried changing the PC resolution to a lower one 1024 >< 768? But without another working monitor it may be difficult. You can also try booting the PC into safe mode. Best way to conclusively test is connect monitor to another known working CPU or VGA port of laptop or TV tuner etc.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

                        by FZG
                        Hello there, helpful forum people!

I am in the process of fixing an old (ca. 1990) Sony BVM1410PM CRT monitor and need some help. The PSU board of this monitor had failed and I had to replace quite a few capacitors and other parts but now - with my limited knowledge - I ran into a wall.

On the board there is a coil choke that has failed (tested with inductance meter) and I don´t know what to replace it with. According to the device´s service manual the part in question is a "Coil, Choke 525 uH (Sony P/N: 1-459-643-11)".

                        The original part...

                        MAINBOARD FY13_EU IP-012C101-4010
black screen ,no STB no life almost death.
on PS all the required volts are present 394V on the main cap and those on cold side 12.41V,3.45 and 3.45 are on
                        Also 3,5,and 12v are on.
nothing happens if i disconnect the PSU from the mainboard as on Samsung because here i think the mainboard gives the signal to the ps.

                        Sony 55W905 dead
                        by Talyn
                        Hi,
My Sony W905 started to turn itself off an on every few minutes and blinking 8 times red in standby. A few minutes later the tv was completely dead.
I can only hear the click of the PSU when attaching/detaching the power cable. No standby LED.

                        Any advice? Thanks!
