    Re: Klipsch ProMedia 5.1

The hum in my unit is definitely not coming from the audio processing board, I can confirm that with 100% certainty.

I am also fairly sure that the hum it is coming from this area marked in a red on the first photo. In that area there is a second "BASH" HC1011 ceramic board, which was also mentioned in that thread, so I am feeling pretty sure that it has to be the source of the noise we are hearing.

I took a photo of it after bending it a bit to be able to see it better.

I think here are the schematics for the BASH HC1011 ceramic board.

I think they were referring to the hum was coming through all the speakers due to bad caps on the main board, you are hearing mechanical hums from the unit.

That is correct. Mhh... what could it be?

It is definitely coming from that area I marked in red on the larger photo in the previous post.

More photos, though I think a video might be best since there is no way to get a good photo without removing the big black heatsinks. Let me know if you want a video slowly moving around the heatsinks to better show the top of the board with those copper coils.

Take a look at the last photo (#6) first for a better overall layout.

To replace the yellow/brown glue? Really no need to put glue back in place, especially EPOXY, if you want to use glue you need to use electronics grade Silicone RTV.

I am going to need a little glue to put that small heatsink back on.

Just do not let it make contact with the copper trace, regular silicone RTV is corrosive.

The non-corrosive curing system of ASI 388 electronic grade silicone makes it ideally suited for protecting, sealing and insulating corrosion-sensitive electronic and electrical materials such as copper, brass, silver, etc.
I guess this one is 100% safe, right? I would much prefer not having to worry about ANYTHING

Ok, so I got the glue and I glued the heatsink that fell off.

What should I check next Budm? What do you think might be causing that hiss?

Did you replace the bulging caps already? (Or better yet, both?)

I usually try to fix the "known" problems/issues first. Those bad caps could well be throwing off the power supply regulation modules.

I also see a slightly overheated resistor in this picture:
                                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1465882311
Basically, if you look in the area with the two big caps (one of which is the bulged cap discussed above), there is a little board sitting between the two capacitors, and on it you can see that resistor right on top.

The resistor most likely is okay, but I'd check it anyways. Try to read the 4-band color code and see if its value matches that when measured with a multimeter. You can measure it on the board, but keep in mind that other components can affect the readings.

When measuring resistors soldered to the board: it is OK if the resistor shows the same or lower resistance that is specified by its color code. However, it is NOT OK if the resistors shows higher resistance (more than allowable tolerance, that is) than stated by color code.

Off the board: a resistor should show the proper resistance as per its color code (and plus or minus the given tolerance).
Example: a 100-Ohm resistor with 5% tolerance (i.e. color code: brown, black, brown, gold) should measure anywhere between 95 and 105 Ohms on your multimeter.

How can you tell if it is overheated? Because there are a lot of components with that white stuff on them. I saw a cap with that as well, and many other little bits all over so I thought it might be some kind of sloppy glue job getting all over the board or something. For example, on that little board, all three components on the very top (the black mosfet looking thing, and the tiny little ball below it) have the same white stuff... really looks like someone had dirty hands or something.

Not sure how to read the resistor, so here is a photo of all three of the components I was talking about. Keep in mind I wiped the top of the resistor with my finger.

The middle portion of that resistor just looks darker than the sides - at least from the picture. Also, not sure if the crack in its case was caused from removal of the white glue or if it is because the resistor blew.

For example, on that little board, all three components on the very top (the black mosfet looking thing, and the tiny little ball below it) have the same white stuff... really looks like someone had dirty hands or something.
Looks like white RTV glue from the factory. I wouldn't be worried about that. Just the tan glue turning brown.

Welp, I'm not sure how to read it either, because it looks like it is missing a band. I see Brown, Black, MISSING BAND, Brown (or is that last one gold?) Could you try to see what that missing color band is? If not possible, perhaps you can try to carefully remove that resistor from the board and see if any parts of the band remain in the hidden half closest to the board.

                                          Hi,

I have this 2.1 Klipsch set where the subwoofer emits a constant whine in standby, in addition to a constant rhythmic pulsing/thumping. Only way to make it stop is to cut power. I think this thread mentions the same issue, though my set is not a BT one: https://community.klipsch.com/index....-bt-subwoofer/

I think all this Klipsch gear is using crappy capacitors. Is it worth trying to replace the caps in the subwoofer amp to make this go away?

                                          Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor....

                                          Hello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
                                          Is there a way...

                                          Hello.

GPU came in, green lines. Spent lots of time using to get the Mats / mods drive working (found on youtube).
Found issue with a RAM block
                                          Replaced, green lines gone.
Trying to test again, assuming getting the false positive. Originally had over 1K on a single bank. Now getting tosses low between banks.
Used a good card to test and same results low errors 32+.

I am just search for some form of command to do a full test on the GPU.
I just ran the mats command with my good GPU and passed after roughly 40 min.
                                          The repaired one, ran...

                                          Hi,
i have a 65 Panasonic TX-65HX710E using vestel 17MB170 main and Lg tcon.

Few drops of water fell probably near COF and have no display. Tried removing tabs but no.part of display present as if tcon fuse open. However 12v is present and tcon can be felt warm enough that supplies are present. Backlight and sound ok.

Anyone knows if this TCon 6870c-0805A has any special test pins for rgb test?

                                          Appreciate your help....
