All 4 measure in, and out of circuit. 0.905- 0.907K ohms.

Dunno what to say. 0.970k is a huge difference than 970M! However resistors do not go lower in resistance. Over my whole career repairing chit I came across one resistor that was basically a short, thus lowered the resistance it should have had.
Maybe try a different DMM? Measure out of circuit of course and keep your fingers off.Comment

check out the colours of r69 r70 r73 and r74 they should also be 910 ohms .. white brown brown is 910 ohms .Comment

I see it on the schematic, I took a picture of the other KA -701 amp I have with the different board. I'll post it here. Tell me what colors you see. I see white brown brown. Gold. The resistor is R 7. I do believe the colors have faded on the one we are working on, and they are brown instead of violet. Check the pictures out, see what you think.Comment

Sure enough! Looks just like you said to me too. It is a 50 year old amp after all… heat, sunshine can effect colours. In this case I would have gone after the measured value. There was obviously something wrong with the meter or the decode process. Resistors don’t short, they go higher in resistance until it opens up.Comment

I guess, my meter is starting to shit the bed, time for a new one, now on to the small black transistors. I'll start on the Q11 side with Q7, Q5, I f these test good I'm just going to put them back in, instead of replacing, maybe on this side I will replace , just because this is the side that started all this crap in the first place. Thanks CapComment

Very funny. My cheap @$$ 13 year old Canadian Tire Auto Ranging DMM I had bought on sale for $20 shit the bed today. I used it in the garage only… who cares… no major loss. Would be much different if my Flukes or Agilent DMM’s takes a dump. Then the calibration certificate is another thing. Not so easy here on my bench.Comment

For a new toy DMM with o'scope and gen, I pulled the trigger on a Owon HDS2202S. Was cheapest on Amazon!? Retired an Extech DMM for garage duty now.
I did a research on that FNIRSI component tester of yours, but I wasn't happy with the result. Specifically its cheating on capacitors ESR. Maybe it is a firmware issue and they fixed it by know, I don't know. The vids I seen were a quite a few months old mostly using firmware 1.0.3. and around there. How do you like it? I am using a Peak Atlas DCA Pro.Last edited by CapLeaker; 05-19-2025, 06:48 PM.- Selected Answer

Any auto ranging can be set to not auto range. I want it for the portable oscilloscope and DMM in one and it has dual channels. I don’t have a portable oscilloscope, but would come in very handy for my odd ball work from time to time. It’s not for my bench, it’s for being out.Comment

by CoinCoin88Hello everyone,
I'm turning to the Badcaps community to help me troubleshoot the radio Rx card from my (old) garage door opener. While I could just ditch that card and replace the whole system, I first would like to understand "why" it suddenly stopped working, because that's just how I am wired...!
Some basics: the receiver works on a 30.875 Mhz frequency. Yes, I'm aware this is not in use anymore in a looot of places. It does not use any rolling code, it's just a regular dip-switch code that you have to set up on both the receiver and transmitter. The receiver... -
by jm1234Hi, I'm seeing one 9V relay having temperature 40C on its 9V (primary) side. Does that seem right? I switched 2 relays on that board and the temperature was the same (on the same position), so I'm sure it's not a faulty relay. I measured voltage on that relay and it was 9.5V DC, so that looks good. I don't see any other relay on that board having that kind of temperature and they have 9V on them too.
I thought maybe the transistor that is switching this relay keeps switching on/off, so I also checked for AC and there was almost none: 0.3V using mV range. No steady frequency was shown, but... -
by edugimenoHi everyone!
I have this board that suddenly stopped supplying power to an output that drives an interchanger cleaner motor.
I checked while the board was in place with all wires attached and there's no AC voltage on the corresponding plug X5
This X5 is driven by fuse F8 (tested OK) which comes from the second orange relay
To make sure there are no charcoaled contacts inside the relay, I got a 24VDC power supply and got it ready to manually power up the coil side of these relays.
I respected the polarity, positive to cathode of protecting diode
So provided all... -
by sam_sam_samI was working on this CNC machine today found no keyboard functioning no control relay powering on
The screen powered on and was giving an operation error but the manual was not very clear about what the error exactly was but with a little bit of troubleshooting and finding out that the control relays not powering on and no keyboard functions we narrowed down to this one switching power supply which of course does not have any indicator LED light they are on the keyboard interface/relay controller board
Found shorted diodes on main controller relays there are 3 of them that... -
by DrDosI have finished my work. The new lights come on except the one for stereo, I reversed the bulbs to no affect, anyway, the unit powers on, relay clicks. I have no DC voltage in speaker outputs, I also do not have any AC in the speaker outputs. There is some faint crackling in the speaker. This unit cranks up loud so I had the volume on very low. Everything seems to be fine but I can't really check the switch until I can get sound out of the outputs. I was going to do caps for the power supplys and the tone board but thought if it was cranking loud at one time maybe just leave it alone until it...1 Photo
