I've decided to change the caps on the power supply, I might as well, while I'm there changing the main filter caps. I promise no more till I see if I have a working amp . IF not I might just smash the hell out of it, kidding!

I'm back, started to recap the power supply, have 3 more smaller caps to do, then the 4 larger ones. While I have those large filter caps out, I'll check the components that I couldn't reach. After that is complete, we will test the amp, and hopefully have a perfect working amp. Fingers crossed.Comment

No, too much work, just a ridiculous design that's all. I'll have to extend the leads with something, they just make it through the board, and are flush with the other side. It would have been perfect if it was another 1/16 in longer.Comment

I'M going to take a closer look, and see what I can do. I recapped my other KA 701, and don't recall having to do all this. Keep in mind it's a little different. I might just have to relocate a few wires. The caps used were kemet, and I have the Nichicon now. Both are snap in type. I don't think any caps this size or value have longer leads. Yes new caps are just a few mm smaller in width. Definitely in height by a good inch.Comment

Yea I really never looked into that, I know I bought in 79 or 80. When I was a sophomore in High school. Saved forever for it.Well I have two choices relocate some wires, or extend the leads. What do you think?Last edited by rccrasher65; 07-05-2025, 10:43 PM.Comment

Just had to ask, I can , and will relocate them as well. That was just a stupid design. I just can't see engineers doing stupid shit like this, but It did last 50 yrs. I guess it will be a few more days work for me. I'm slow as you can see.Comment

by CoinCoin88Hello everyone,
I'm turning to the Badcaps community to help me troubleshoot the radio Rx card from my (old) garage door opener. While I could just ditch that card and replace the whole system, I first would like to understand "why" it suddenly stopped working, because that's just how I am wired...!
Some basics: the receiver works on a 30.875 Mhz frequency. Yes, I'm aware this is not in use anymore in a looot of places. It does not use any rolling code, it's just a regular dip-switch code that you have to set up on both the receiver and transmitter. The receiver... -
by jm1234Hi, I'm seeing one 9V relay having temperature 40C on its 9V (primary) side. Does that seem right? I switched 2 relays on that board and the temperature was the same (on the same position), so I'm sure it's not a faulty relay. I measured voltage on that relay and it was 9.5V DC, so that looks good. I don't see any other relay on that board having that kind of temperature and they have 9V on them too.
I thought maybe the transistor that is switching this relay keeps switching on/off, so I also checked for AC and there was almost none: 0.3V using mV range. No steady frequency was shown, but... -
by edugimenoHi everyone!
I have this board that suddenly stopped supplying power to an output that drives an interchanger cleaner motor.
I checked while the board was in place with all wires attached and there's no AC voltage on the corresponding plug X5
This X5 is driven by fuse F8 (tested OK) which comes from the second orange relay
To make sure there are no charcoaled contacts inside the relay, I got a 24VDC power supply and got it ready to manually power up the coil side of these relays.
I respected the polarity, positive to cathode of protecting diode
So provided all... -
by DrDosI have finished my work. The new lights come on except the one for stereo, I reversed the bulbs to no affect, anyway, the unit powers on, relay clicks. I have no DC voltage in speaker outputs, I also do not have any AC in the speaker outputs. There is some faint crackling in the speaker. This unit cranks up loud so I had the volume on very low. Everything seems to be fine but I can't really check the switch until I can get sound out of the outputs. I was going to do caps for the power supplys and the tone board but thought if it was cranking loud at one time maybe just leave it alone until it...1 Photo

by sam_sam_samI was working on this CNC machine today found no keyboard functioning no control relay powering on
The screen powered on and was giving an operation error but the manual was not very clear about what the error exactly was but with a little bit of troubleshooting and finding out that the control relays not powering on and no keyboard functions we narrowed down to this one switching power supply which of course does not have any indicator LED light they are on the keyboard interface/relay controller board
Found shorted diodes on main controller relays there are 3 of them that... - Loading...
