Chasis bond to neutral to overcome oven tripping problem

    Hi,

I have a 6 years old Rowenta table top oven. The oven have both convection and grill function.
Last Christmas I used it to roast a turkey with the convection mode for about 4 hours without any problem. When I switched to grill mode to deep browning the turkey for the final half hour, the power trips after a while.

I have not been using the oven since then. Last week, when I try to use the oven again, both convection and grill mode trip the power supply a few minutes after turning it on.

As I was too busy with my work, I leave it to the repairman rather then Googling for solution and do the repair myself.

After a few minute into repair, he solved the problem. The oven can be use in all mode without tripping. I grilled my pizza for lunch.

Then it come to my thought what have the repairman done to stop the oven from tripping the power supply? Could it be that he removed the grounding of the chasis? I called him

He said the chasis is now bonded to neutral, rather then ground. So if there is current leakage, it will trip the power supply too.

Further thought, I asked what if there is a swapped in the power plug between the live and neutral or there is an error connection in the wall supply, then would the chasis be electrify with live ? He said yes!!

Is this code of practice by "grounding" the chasis to neutral acceptable?

I think there is a very high risk to take if there is swap in the polarity either at the wall supply or the extension plug or even the oven plug itself.

it's dangerous and also typical of the type of bs that goes on in some asian countries.
like using those shower heads with built in heaters that just pass electricity through the water - over your head!

Neutral should only bond to earth at the main panel and indeed, tying the chassis of a metallic appliance to neutral is very naughty and dangerous. You should look into getting a new oven soon.

In the west that "electrician" would go to jail or get an extreme fine if that appliance hurt somebody after that "fix"
But very good on you for asking the right questions, 99.9% of people would have no clue...

Here is a similar thread but with some ideas you could borrow to try to repair it more properly.
I would just recommend to buy a new one though, unless it is very expensive.

With Singapore's strict laws I'm surprised there isn't one to stop someone from doing this too...

Sorry, if I sound rude... but then it is a neglect on your part of not doing so and you are willing to take the risk. Period. In my case I love my kids or any one else in my residence more than carry that kind of risk. That is only my opinion... do what you want... just don't complain later. After all these safety devices are there for a reason.

Electric oven tripping circuit breaker after turned on for 3-5 minutes
                      by beetle1303
My electric oven was working fine all the while from purchased 2 years ago. I have been using it weekly for about a year, but stopped using for a year now since then.
When I turn it on again yesterday, the tripped the circuit breaker and whole house no power supply. I reset the circuit breaker, and retried. Same thing happened.

                      This is what happened:
                      - Turned on the oven power supply, set temperature to 200c, everything worked for a few minutes, then the power tripped. Oven was warmed/hot.
                      - Reset circuit breaker, retried, same thing happened.

Hello everyone my oven is less than 2 years old and all of a sudden recently when i run the oven for 15 minutes or so and i am done with it and shut it off. after about 10 minutes it starts chiming and randomly putting it in different modes like the touch screen is being touched but no one is around it. I have tried to reset it by unplugging it multiple times and no luck. I took it apart to see the main board and everything looks fine. I am wondering if i should replace the main board or if its in the control panel. the touch screen is very responsive and works like it should. its only acting...

SEF 551.10 - Error starting the reflow oven.
                      by bpjl
                      Hello,

When starting the SEF 551.10 reflow oven, the following problem occurs:

It seems to me that this is related to corrupted software. Does anyone have files that can fix this device? Or maybe someone uses such an oven and is able to make a sector copy of the memory card located in the computer controlling this oven?

PS.: Of course, appropriate emails for help have been sent to the manufacturer and distributor in my country. No response yet, but I don't expect much. It's a fairly old device and from what I know, it's no longer...

                      Daewoo microwave oven repair
                      by goodpsusearch
One day my microwave oven stopped heating.

It would turn on and rotate the plate but no heat.

I removed the cover and checked components with digital multimeter.

Found that the high voltage fuse was blown.

This is not the AC fuse, if the AC fuse was blown then the oven would appear totally dead.

Then I tried to find replacement fuse on local electronic parts stores and this specific value was not available so I got the closest I could find.

I replaced fuse and tried to heat up a glass of water.

                      Strange noise...

LG LST5651SW stove: oven not heating properly
                      by Curious808
LG LST5651SW stove: The oven has a hidden bottom (bake) element that seems not to be heating up, but tests OK.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Set oven to 400. The display shows it heating up normally to about 365, and stops there. The top (broil) element is visible and heated. Can't see the bottom element, but the bottom of the oven isn't extremely hot. A wet cloth on the bottom doesn't sizzle and doesn't really heat up. The stovetop burners seem to be working fine.

                      TESTING SO FAR:

                      1) Removed the back panel and leads to the bottom element. Using multimeter, continuity...
