if it did, it would just play dead,
All the fans motors and shop vacs I have taken apart have a thermal fuse in line with the motor windings. If the motor overheats because the fan is not cleaned or if air intake of shop vacs is plug and overheats these little thermal fuses blow and the people throw the appliance away. Could save a lot of waste if they put in a resettable fuse.

      seriously?
      bastards.
in europe our vac's use self-resetting thermal cutouts.
if you overheat it, you just unplug it for 10 min's to cool down.

        Re: Treadmill motor not working

Hi guys, just to update on this one.. I pulled apart the motor.. clean down the brush contacts and the commutator... cleared a bit of dust and dirt from inside the chassis.... Put the motor back together and it started spinning again. tbh, I didnt think I had done anything significant to make any difference, but it's working fine now when I leave it on test with a 12V battery.

However when I plug it back in to the treadmill, it now starts and then immediately stops... If I take off the drive belt, it will stay running.. So I'm thinking that there is too much tension on the belt.. Just looking up YouTube to find out how to clean the mechanics of the treadmill.

When it is running see what voltage is being supplied to it.

Your further on than I am - still not tried anything with mine.

Yeah, I managed to get the thing in to my shed so that I could work on it... It's a big unit, very awkward to move...

I was more thinking about maybe borrowing an induction ammeter / current clamp... I'm still thinking that the it's meeting too much resistance, then consequently the motor pulling too much current, then switching off.. The belt is difficult to turn, but not having much experience with treadmills, I'm not sure how tight it should be....

Currently downloading every video I can find on youtube about belts, rollers etc etc..

              Was the sparking internal?

Generally if there is sparking the brushes have chipped... This can cause the burning smell from the friction and of course stops the motor from working properly, they will run without tension but stop with tension. Check the brush contact surface to see if its smooth and chip free

Paraphrasing a manual for a Proform treadmill, 'at the center of the deck the belt should pull away from the deck about 3-4 inches on either side'.

Also, check to make sure that there's nothing sticky either on the underside of the belt, or anywhere along the belt's path, in case someone tried using the wrong kind of lube or something.

The sparking was internal yeah, near where the brushes are... When I first took the motor out it would not move at all. It was only when I cleaned it internally and cleaned the brushes that it worked... When it started running again, I presume that it was fully sorted... You're saying that if the brush contacts arent good enough they wont be able to carry the full 7 amps?

Did you lube the motor bearings when you cleaned it?

Indeed if they do not have full contact the motor won't run correctly. Seen it with many many lawnmower and washing machine motors. They usually end up chipping because of something small getting into the motor or due to heat. Typical sign is that the motor runs but not with much power, They are usually stoppable by hand in most cases. Remove the brushes and check them

                        Re: Treadmill motor not working

Made some progress with this today..

Remember that the treadmill motor would run fine without the drive belt connected, but would shut down (as in the video above) when the belt was connected. With the drive belt connected, I decided to connect my 12V battery and see if it would move, and to my surprise it did.

So then I had a look at the little sensor on the side of the treadmill... Have a look for yourselves.. (note that I remove the sensor for the last part).

I disconnected the Reed Switch connector from the board and tested it while running the motor, first with my hand and then with a 12v battery...

                          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LElCpRFwbJQ

From my testing in the above video, the Reed Switch seems to be working.

But still, with the reed switch connected the motor shuts down, with the reed switch connected the motor continues to run. It's a bit confusing.

The question comes to mind what exactly the reed switch switches. What circuit is it switching? The fault may lie within that.

it may be feedback for the speed control.

Yeah, I've been thinking that when you rule out all other options....
                                1) The motor works fine with the sensor disconnected..
                                2) the belt moves fine so it's not a mechanical problem with that...
                                3) And the sensor is working..

The only time there is a problem is when that sensor switch turns ON... So the circuit that it is switching on must have a problem. I may pull out the controller board and check the feedback resistors. Cant find a schema unfortunately..

Tune in tomorrow for the next youtube episode.. :-) .. and many thanks

Jonathon, I'm on dialup so can't watch your videos, but I think that's the rpm sensor that your talking about - do you know if it's in the right position? Maybe it got knocked out of place. Please disregard if you've already got instructions on how to adjust it.

Attached is a pic of the sensor..

I pulled out the board this morning. Soldered a few cold lookings joints and checked a few components but it's like looking in to the abyss without a schema.. Gonna look for one now.. It's a JohnsonFitness JDYF07L.

I don't recognize the sensor, or see how adjustable it is; however, the portion of the pulley right below the belt's marking of '4306' looks like a place where a magnet could go (that round serrated-looking hole), so I'm guessing that the magnet fell off; could be wrong
though, wouldn't be the first time.

I've adjusted it every which way but it shuts down as soon as the magnet rotates past the reed switch.

That's what I thought at first as well... But there IS a magnet in the front roller as you can see from the attached image. I also thought that possibly there was meant to be a second magnet in that "round serrated looking hole", but I've looked up lots of videos and manuals and there should only be one magnet. The second image that I've attached is the stock image of a brand new front roller..

                                            Hello

I received a treadmill controller (probably Zipro Dream) for repair (more like replacing parts). Board designation: PCB-ZYXK9-1111-V1.2.PCB. existing in it were:
                                            • mosfet Q9 (originally MDF4N60 was installed) - mounted on P10NK60ZFP;
                                            • resistor R64 (replaced);
                                            • F2 protection.

After turning on the power of AC1 and AC2, the components burned again. The existing elements were desoldered and new ones were soldered. The controller has not been connected yet because I'm afraid they would be destroyed again.

                                            Hello,

i have many 5050sff. all of them, and how i experienced over many years for all about 250 DELLs goin through my hands, are fully flashable and can be serviced in any way when the service_mode jumper is set.
Never ever i experienced problems with that.

Now i have one 5050sff machine, where this jumper isnt working at all.
I do not get the normal messge that the jumper is set when booting and a short test with FPT just confirms this. Everything is locked -->> EVEN for reading !?

The history of the machine is that i used it in my office...

                                            Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

Hi i have one Macbook Air 2020 where touch ID is not working (it's not scanning fingerprints). Touch ID was working before, there is no error message during scanning fingerprint it's just not scanning on screen you can see only fingerprint but there are no red updates as when it's working. Power button is working fine.

I've checked boardview and also schematics but i'm not able to find anything related to TouchID ... i have similar issue on a2338 where there was problem with PP3V0_TOUCHID and after replacing UT610 it was working but here i'm not able to find anything related to...

hi there,im having a look at repairing a wood lathe for my dad,(charnwood w821)the problem is when turning up the variable speed control, the motor starts to stop and start by itself,if i continue to turn up the speed it will trip the mcb in the consumer unit, there is also a slight smell of burning from the speed controll box.,Another strange symptom is the lathe can be unplugged from the mains after switching it off and the motor will spin a couple of times by itself,so far ive put a new speed controll potentiometer on and new motor brushes, ive also tested the motor windings and everything looks...
