    digikey... ugggh! Mouser... ARGH!

Digikey seems to be out of anything I'm looking for. For example 1000uf 6.3v cap with 8mm dia; and the highest one they have in ripple is 1.49ma. I need at least 1.65ma for this motherboard that has OST caps.

I like digikey because of the first class mail option. But recently alot of the caps I'm looking for are out of stock or special order.

But that's only half the story.. Mouser on the other hand seems to have the caps I need all the time. But when it comes to shipping, I'm forced to pay 8$ or more for ground shipping for a 4$ order.

I ordered some caps a few weeks ago that totaled $8 and chose the USPS priority mail option for $7 only to be charged $12 for it. Then last week I ordered caps and tips that totaled $40 and chose UPS ground and got charged $9 for 2nd day air.

And the fact that both don't charge you fixed estimate or a fixed price for shipping at the time of checkout drives me crazy.

    Your thoughts?

I like digikey better because of the shipping also. They are out of stock sometimes so I go to mouser, but I don't like the shipping cost there. Digikey always has my parts here in 3 days or so and mouser took 10 days last time. I was getting most of my stuff at allied electronics, but they now have a $25 minimum. I usually don't need this much, but when I do, I use them.

If they told you they were going to charge $7 for USPS then charged $12 you have them for mail fraud.
      Tell them so.....

Does it have to be 8mm diameter? Can you squeeze in a 10mm cap?

I kind of thinking UHGG too....why not support the site that you're coming to in order to complain about the competitors....

I keep forgetting this place has a store. Gaaaaaaahh!

It has to be 8mm to fit between the PCI-E slots and on edge of the board next to memory dimms.

It wasn't mail fraud, it was the shipping estimator on their site, I was expecting around maybe 7-8$ for USPS but they end up charging me $12.

I like digikey better due to simple site design, low shipping cost and variety of parts.

              Re: digikey... ugggh! Mouser... ARGH!

I've long heard this whine about Mouser from many members here, and have come to the conclusion -
Yer just a buncha cheap basterds...

My highest shipping to date from Mouser was $11.63 and that was for over 200 caps and 40 MOSFETs in various flavors. Nearly $350 total. Plus there were 2 items on backorder for 2 months. They just came in and the shipping was free.

DigiKey takes on the risk of shipping 1st class mail, and they eat any losses. Mouser is unwilling to do so.

Arrow may have a minimum, but that keeps away the guys who want onesies - twosies of goods. That's not in their business plan of servicing commercial enterprises. Plus, it's not difficult for any *real* repair shop to hit their minimum. Many times their MOSFET and IC prices are better (1/3 to 1/2 less) than Mouser or DigiKey.

All use shipping estimates and you won't know how much until it actually ships. I've never been surprised because of being in business, I have shipped items all over the country and the world and shipping costs are just a 'given'.

Beats the hell out of driving there to pick it up...

                I agree with Toasty.

What pisses ME off is that it's cheaper to mail something from Hong Kong to AZ than it is to mail the same thing from TX or CA to AZ.

A good share of the new members have NO IDEA BCN sells caps.
Some 'potential buyers' aren't active enough to ever find out through discussions.

I suggested a link to the 'caps for sale' page be placed in the forum page heading,, oh,, 3-4 years ago maybe, but it was deemed unnecessary.

I think this is the reason why, because I'll be on this forum when I'm buying caps and I'll remember this place has a store but there's not home link to return to the home page, then I'll get distracted and forget. Other times I'll remember and go to the address bar and remove /forums/ and browse the store only to not find the cap I need.

too bad I don't still live in Mansfield (half an hour away now). When I lived there I was 5 minutes from the mouser HQ. I hear with a cheap business license I can go get whatever stuff I want /w no minimum order, but then again, thats only what I hear, and i'm not sure if thier hq is thier main distribution warehouse anyways

I prefer Mouser and don't find the shipping to be excessive. Unfortunately I need such odd semiconductors that I end up placing orders at both Mouser and Digikey at the same time. While I'd buy from many companies listed in Find Chips I find that Digikey and Mouser are the only companies with a substantial product line. I'd rather lump slightly higher priced items in the same order than save pennies onzie twozie to every company.

Some of the other companies listings aren't very accurate either. It's not good when you want an SOIC-8 package and receive a DIP-8 package instead.

I cuncur, it should be easier to get to the main site (not the forums)
Many people use ad blockers etc so there needs to be another more obvious way to go back to the main site
Afterall that is what pays for this forum!
