Re: Power Mac G4 MDD "Mirror-Door" won't power up
It all comes down to which supplier has what caps in stock. The price per unit is typically very close if not exactly the same. The quantity discounts are where myself and others make our decisions as we buy in bulk. For onesie-twosies, there's no real difference.
Where the difference lies is in the shipping.

Re: iMac 24 PSU LITEON PA-3241-02A1 250W
If the cover is on or off will make no difference. It will work.
What is the Apple model number of the iMac?
Here: https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
Can you provide some clear photos from different angles of the logic board and the whole unit from the back?

Vizio VP422 random bright then dim display
Customer's wall mounted TV. Repaired 10 months ago for bad PSU caps except for mains cap.
Recently it began going from normal brightness to a bit dim then back. Cycles several times a minute and it will also go a little light in contrast.
Any clues where to start are appreciated before I have to drag this off the wall again.

While it -has- the fan controller on it, it's not its' only function. It does the PS_ON line and voltage Supervisor too.
One of the 2 smaller chips (IIRC...?) do the PS_ON. WT7518D
notes, notes, notes... Ah-ha!
Desolder just pin 8 (Vcc) of the 8-pin vertical chip and see if it will...Last edited by Toasty; 10-15-2017, 04:51 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Recapping Antec SmartPower SP350 and SP400
No diagrams that I've seen. Only what some folks have drawn out.
I suspect you have an issue with the start circuit.
Too long since I had mine open. Does that have the little vertical board near the outputs?

BTW: There is no need to quote the post above your reply. It's when you go back to a post from another page or thread that you use it.

Re: Advice on LG DVD player blown power supply
I disagree with using halogens for testing. Because of the lower cold resistance, too much current can pass, effectively defeating the series bulb's purpose.
They're good for load testing however.
If you find yourself working on this type of equipment more often, another (safer) option is to use a variac in conjunction with an isolation transformer and fuse or 1-2A circuit breaker. There are combo units such as the RCA/VIZ Isotap which have all 3.
That setup plus the series lamp is the way I roll......Leave a comment:

Re: Advice on LG DVD player blown power supply
>>Probably headroom for inrush currents.<<
Correct. The thermistor limits the initial surge. It is -rated- at 4A continuous.
SCK-054 = 5Ω initial resistance, 4A continuous current
Ex: SCK-083 = 8Ω initial resistance, 3A continuous current

Re: Advice on LG DVD player blown power supply
The damage there looks to be from the bridge rectifier shorting. The thermistor/inrush current limiter TH901 didn't blow, nor did the 2 - 0.15Ω source resistors which effectively present 0.075Ω.
ZD903 may have shorted, which would explain why the resistors didn't fail, but it still doesn't explain why the thermistor didn't torch.
The FET probably died because of the wrong values.
You can bypass the chokes for testing purposes.
