I have a Weller soldering gun, NOT built for recapping. Too bulky, and not precise enough. On a tight budget(just did computer upgrades(over $500)), so I don't want to spend more than $50-$75 on one(if there even is one). Can anyone help me here? Thanks.

Best soldering station UNDER $50?
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.
My computer doubles as a space heater.

Re: Best soldering station UNDER $50?
Literally yes, im not messing here. I have owned a maplin 40w no brand soldering iron for nearly 3 years now. Still heats fine, and im able to solder fine with the stock tip I have been able to solder Ic's woth alot of pins fine. Its more about your technique than the tool when it comes to soldering.Last edited by ReeceyBurger123; 05-01-2016, 04:38 PM.Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. Re: Best soldering station UNDER $50?
Under $50, Hakko 936 clone (or if you check Ebay you can sometimes find used "real" Hakko 936s for around $50, though $70-80 is more common): http://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-AO936-AO...ords=aoyue+936
or for a little more ($60) a 937 (ESD safe and digital display)clone: http://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-937-Digi...ords=aoyue+936
~$100 will get you a "real" new Hakko FX-888D: http://www.amazon.com/Hakko-FX888D-2...5%3A2470955011Comment

Re: Best soldering station UNDER $50?
I have been using one like this for years. It is best to get the 936A version which has the Japanese heater.

Re: Best soldering station UNDER $50?
I'd have to say that nichrome (typical heating element wire) has some implicit temperature control as long as you supply constant voltage like either plugged in or using a dimmer; however the design of the tip and how it thermally connects to the heating element makes a huge difference on how well it actually regulates heat. That being said, it's still no match for a well designed feedback control loop system.Comment

Re: Best soldering station UNDER $50?
Exactly.
Remember those awful "shipped with kit" soldering irons? With terrible tip-to-heater contact (setscrew, loose tolerances) and overpowered heater, that tip got blazing hot! And lost its temperature the moment you held it to a joint. If you did manage to "solder" with one of these, the joints were bad from overheating/oxidation. You'd actually see the tip oxidize away if you left it on for half an hour. Waaay too hot, which still didn't "make up" for the lousy thermal interface, not in the least.
Should've been called "rip the traces off" irons...
TG, scrounge a used Weller TCP from ebay. Proven design and tips a'plenty."pokemon go... to hell!"
EOL it...

by sam_sam_samI have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails
I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time... -
by chth96hello.
A few months ago,I have purchased 0.1mm Soldering Iron Tip of below aliexpress link,But I noticed that It is totally impossible to use this 0.1mm iron tip in the T12 soldering station
https://ko.aliexpress.com/item/4001275635593.html
Is there any good soldering station which is possible to use 900M-TJ-I tip and have inexpensive or reasonable price in aliexpress?
Any reply would be appreciated. -
by capriderHey,
I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.
I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.
1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.
2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option.... -
by mkbehbehI purchased this soldering station when it was on sale at amazon. It had a slew of one star reviews, but the price was low enough that even if the controller and PSU were toast, the handle tips and stand were worth more than the price. All of the reviews mentioned that the unit was either DOA, or died on the first use. I looked on Aliexpress and the first clue was that KSGER still sold the 220V version of this station, but all of the 110V versions had been discontinued. I figured That there was a problem with the 110V on the power suppply and the controller would be fine.

by deep000Hi,
I'm looking to get on Aliexpress a hot air soldering station for hobby use, nothing too fancy, just something "reliable" and budget-friendly.
Any recommendations for a "good" cheap one that gets the job done?
Thanks in advance - Loading...
