Another key point for locating shorts is that you have the schematic to see how the signal lines or power lines are distributed.

Yeah this is the issue budm, Rarely can I ever find schematics for graphics cards... Cheers everyone else for the input too...

I may get a bench PSU and inject voltage through after putting IPA over parts of the board.... I do know that the IPA will evaporate a lot quicker with even the slightest heat change and should see the general area at least

Wait, I thought any liquid on top of powered on electronics could cause problems including shorts?

I recently received a Dell laptop that would not power on. The history was unknown and after several hours of troubleshooting, I finally narrowed down the problem to the keyboard. Some probably spilled liquid on the laptop while it was powered on and cause the keyboard to short out. Removing the keyboard allowed the laptop to power on and function correctly.

IPA of a decent purity isn't conductive. I've used this trick a couple of times.

Yeah IPA won't conduct. I have Gallons of it as I use it for cleaning off flux after BGA rework

Hmm, I guess I'm overly cautious then and letting IPA cleaned boards dry overnight before powering them on.

              However, I don't have the 91%+ IPA. I have the 70% stuff.

Not sure what 70% would do so yeah best let it evap first

70% rubbing alcohol contains lanolin so don't use that, if it's not rubbing alcohol then it's probably just 30% water and can us a hair dryer to evap the water off.

This is seriously giving me a headache... Attempted to input current into the circuit and see if IPA evaps faster... No component is heating up :S

So seems using an ESR is useless... I have no schematic... Inputting current doesn't yield any clue...

What else can i try other than tearing components off one by one?

I have no clue what is shorted, Just 12v rail to ground is <1 ohm.

Its some graphics I understand? Often the MOSFETs go bad, and they are pretty special ones, often impossible to get and you need reflow station to replace them. What graphics it is?

SMD is unlikely, if it blasted fuses on 150W connector, 0402/0201 SMD component would vaporize if it was shorted.

12v line doesnt have much on it, just some caps and fets usually.

got a good pair of front/back foto's of the card near the 12v connector?

I will have to take some.

All inputs are 12v so I am not sure after that what line the short will be on. Just know there are 2 connectors both 8 pin, One side shows no short but the other does.

                                          by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery...

Changing the scale of an analog meter
                                          by jorpec
                                          Hi

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

                                          Thnaks

How an incandescent light and a ESR meter ** friend**have a machine blowing fuses

About a month ago we had a transformer jumper wire that burned in two different places between two transformers caused over $200 thousand dollars worth of damage to VFD drives at least 10 of them and a memory card and quite a few power supply as well

Now we have most of the equipment that got damaged back up and running except a feeder that has issues and we are waiting for some parts for

Now we also have another piece of equipment that was blowing fuses on the 110 volt controller switch circuit with the ā€œEā€ stops and one switching power (24 volt) supply and a transformer...

EDMI ATLAS MK10 Electronic Meter Discussion

Greetings, new guy here but always interested in the crazy universe of modding

We just finished construction of around 25 vacation houses, all inside the same private area.
Each house has 3phase power , and we bought an atlas MK10 meter for each house (25 meters total ! )

The metering on a per-house basis is done privately. Its not done by a utility company. The utility company will only charge us for the total consumption of all 25 houses together.

Id like to do a small modification on the firmware of our MK10 to make it easier identify each house's...
