I think the DIY kit is not bad and not that expensive.

If you are not on a budget, this one would although make fun

I made for myself this ESR meter.
    It cost me 20 euros.
    Works very well

    Hello,Agent24
He can really MEASURE,and not an approximate estimate,as many ESR meter.
    This is really impressive
If there was a desire to do,try to help as mush as possible.
Scheme itself is not complicated, higher demands are made only to the radio components, and it is clear.
I also hope to repeat it.
Already started to collect radio components.

If it can accurately measure down to 0.0001 Ohm that is quite impressive (to me anyway!)

Pity the thing is in Russian and I can't read it.

Google translate got about 10 paragraphs in and then called it quits...

    Hello all
Perhaps somebody will take over here this project.
I think this is the first attempt at an amateur level,to make a digital ESR meter with a resolution of the 0,0001ohm.

I've already built a 'Blue ESR meter' for myself but this circuit looks pretty nice too (perhaps inspired by Bob Parker's design?)

I thought PICs could be programmed directly with a serial port and only 3 wires?

Why not use a basic stamp from parallax? very easy to program , they also make the propellor chip which look's very interesting.

now i'll probably buy cheap soldering station and one more iron within that price....
    hehe...

but if i was looking for built esr meter today, i would buy mike's esr micro, yes.

sam, perhaps i'll send you few badcaps so we can compare readings, me on my analog meter, and you on esr micro...
Good idea ,that would be interesting seeing what the values were .

    Have a merry xmas

I bought my Atlas ESR+Capacitance meter for ~65+vat+p&p, comparitively, to food for example it doesn't seem that expensive, and it still works after eating it.

When I was hard up but wanted luxury goods, I just adjusted my budget.

To buy a new 4 head Panasonic VCR back in 1998, I spent two months eating 16p a loaf genetically modified bread and tap water to pay for it, to stop myself from passing out from starvation and feeling like crap whilst working, I'd go in the work toilet and masturbate for a few seconds to wake myself up, the hormones produced helped alot and after the mission I owned that VCR, more happily for knowing I almost died for it.

Anyone tried making one of these? I've got just about all that's needed except for the actual PIC used in this design, but seeing as they are cheap I'm tempted to give it a go...

Yep, goto`s & nop`s aren“t anything to be proud of and not the way this should be done.
But sure, resources are limited on such controllers, thus sometimes the ugly is the real beauty.

I know the feeling as well. I have to dig up some information about PIC programmers. It was fun playing with the micro's at uni. That is why when I have spare time, I want to get into some PIC (or any other micro-controller) programming.

You should go through the program as well. Make sure it works well and if anything could be done to improve it (maybe that will be after you get the initial design working ). For example this quote: "Calibration is by adjusting the delays inside this loop, by padding it with goto's and nop's.". I really do not like this sort of approach. It would be much better to find an alternate way that is more flexible to achieve the same result.

Measuring ESR in-circuit: LCR or ESR meter
    by Rado108
Hello. Which tool is better for in-circuit testing of e-caps? I was thinking about getting proper LCR meter like DER DE5000 but as i have seen more accurate are ESR meters like ESR70 from Peak if we are measuring in-circuit. Is that true?
Sometimes ESR can not be accurate when in-circuit but still want to get the best tool for it.

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
    by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

    op amp circuit function?
    by Alimash
    Hi,
I am repairing a ups which doesn't turn on ,it has the following ICs:
SG3525 used to drive inverter mosfets.
couple of uc3483, one for the power supply and another to drive a big mosfet at the output stage(i think the technique is called boost)
A LM358 and TL074 for control mechanism and of course the uController.

The SG3525 is shutting down every time the ups is turned on.
I want your help to know the function of LM358 and TL074 in the system.
I reverse engineered the LM358 circuit and i think that one of the block(A) is used for battery level...

Fixing the Charge Circuit of the Batteries of the DC Motor
    by Astonished
    Hi friends of electronics

What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

Please help me fix this circuit.

Tape recorder Sharp RT 1155 - DC voltage in the VU Meter circuit
    by UNITRAX
I have a faulty right VU meter.
At the poles, the DC voltage varies between 0.5 - 1.5 V
The indicator does not respond to the ohmmeter at all.

    I checked
    transistors Q202, Q203
    capacitors
    C230, C231, C412
    D202 diode.
    Variable resistor VR 204
    T 201 coil

Anyone have an idea how to get rid of the DC voltage?...
