Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
I made one some years ago,the only problem was a bit of drift .
I fitted a small bulb in the oscillator ,that cirtainly made a big difference.
Pinched the idea from HP

Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
Probably you can but you may need to recompile the firmware and change some options to make it work on the different chip - and I have no idea what you would have to change.Leave a comment:

I just discovered the beauty of google, but its a direct translation word for word.
Can't make it out. Technical issues its not adequate.
Need some technical mind.Leave a comment:

How are those probes made ?

There is only some strange .spl7 files on that other link?
how can one open those?Last edited by frako; 01-28-2011, 10:56 AM.Leave a comment:

It's better than the Russian ESR / R / L / C / F Meter (by R2-D2) ?Leave a comment:

It looks like a good circuit. That page says it can measure down to few milliohms, what is practically the lower measurement limit without taking into account capacitors capacitance and inductance.
Important things about this circuit are:
a) Four wire measurement
b) Synchronized rectification
Many ESR meters drive the capacitor with square wave, but there comes
the problem that test lead inductance causes about a microsecond wide voltage spike and ringing. Now when simple meters use simple diode rectifier it also adds this spike to the output and that swamps any little voltage generated from low ESR capacitors. Simply adding amplification does not help to measure lower resistances, becouse the spike is amplified too.
Some meters use sinewave but then the test lead inductance adds some voltage drop, I have measured it to correspond about 0.1...0.5 ohms. It is hard to zero out because the inductance varies with test lead position. Also the usual opamp precision rectifier starts to be too slow at 100kHz to work with millivolt accuracies.
This synchronous rectification used here is a clever thing. The circuit drives the capacitor with square wave, waits 3 us for ringing die off and then connects the sampling capacitor for a microsecond. Voltage on the sampling capacitor is then RC-filtered, converted to ground reference and amplified to 1 Volt/ohm output signal. Additional benefit is that the difference amplifier don't need great AC CMMR as it works with only DC voltages
Google translate makes quite good translation out of that page.Last edited by frako; 01-27-2011, 10:56 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
Its in PDF.
Its this file "2484______zip" in "Description"
It looks like a manual to setup and calibrate the unit. See if you can translate this Google.

Thanks Frako,
Any idea about the Russian version? Looks quite interesting although its SMD based. I would like to give it a try but unfortunately the manual is in Russian. Can't seem to find the translation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

by Rado108Hello. Which tool is better for in-circuit testing of e-caps? I was thinking about getting proper LCR meter like DER DE5000 but as i have seen more accurate are ESR meters like ESR70 from Peak if we are measuring in-circuit. Is that true?
Sometimes ESR can not be accurate when in-circuit but still want to get the best tool for it.-

by UNITRAXI have a faulty right VU meter.
At the poles, the DC voltage varies between 0.5 - 1.5 V
The indicator does not respond to the ohmmeter at all.
I checked
transistors Q202, Q203
capacitors
C230, C231, C412
D202 diode.
Variable resistor VR 204
T 201 coil
Anyone have an idea how to get rid of the DC voltage?...-

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

by vraspHi,
I've been trying to build a Peltier circuit that I can control with arduino and create cooling ramps. I've never built a circuit before and only have a basic knowledge of electronics.
I've been researching how to do this and attempted to build it. My circuit is basically a PWM signal sent to a motor driver with an LC filter to smoothen the signal. Since very low temperatures are required, I added another Peltier on top of the first one. The top Peltier needs to be driven at a lower voltage to limit the amount of heat produced and effectively lower the temperature.... -

Small technical problem on a Nintendo Switch lite
Here's what I noticed: the USB port has been damaged internally, with a short circuit on the power supply line to the small fuse.
After replacing the USB connector, the short circuit went away and I can't see any other short circuit in the whole motherboard.
When I charge the console, it seems to be charging: I get 15 volts and an amperage of 0.450 A.
Then, after a while, the amperage increases to 1.1 A and the BQ24193 charging chip starts to heat up, as evidenced... - Loading...
