Re: Troubleshooting Electric Blanket
Gotta love how the live wires (240V) have been crushed, by the screws that hold the case together.

Is that a crack on the trace just to the left of the S15 text?

Re: Amazon Basics Laminator design
I've over driven one of these type of basic laminator before now by changing the thermal switches for higher temperature and used it for a while for making PCB's. It lasted about a year before the plastic rollers holding the rails and rollers started to melt and it became useless.
It was replaced with a variable temperature model that can hit the required temps without fear of it melting or bursting into flames.

Re: How to take apart fans to oil them?
Often that bung behind the label is the way to the back of the bearing. Its a matter of digging it out with small screwdrivers or a drill and brute force.
Generally though, its not worth the effort as 6 months later the bearing is back to noisy no matter what you try and do.

Re: The new HDD overheats in Dell Inspiron 5520
Welcome to modern tech, where things are built down to a price with little or no thought to how they behave in any real world situation. 48C isn't too unusual for a laptop HDD, they do tend to run hotter than desktop drives.
Will it affect the life? Nobody knows, I've got drives here that run at that sort of temperature and are still going 8 years later.

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
Try it with a 9V battery, it won't need that cap....

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
Try removing it, its a push to reset switch, if its fitted wrong it could be holding the MCU in reset....

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
gah, I do wish people would scan circuit diagrams in with enough clarity that its possible to read them. I'm wrong, it DOES need more than the 3V supply, there's 2 VCC rails, one for the MCU, one for the LEDs.Last edited by Harvey; 10-06-2018, 04:52 PM.

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
I assumed that too, but its to be connected through a diode to the vcc supply... unless the MCU has voltage sensing and goes into backup (no display) mode below a certain voltage.
I also notice there is a resistor bypassing this diode (I can't make out the numbers on the circuit diagram) that CHARGES the 3V battery when connected to a supply! So DON'T use a standard 3V coin cell in there or you'll have another exploding component!.
*EDIT * What goes on with R12 on your PCB? Trick of...Last edited by Harvey; 10-06-2018, 04:45 PM.

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
Actually, having looked at the circuit diagram, the clock should work just off the 3V battery...

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
Underneath the cap is a 5V 78L05 regulator. They generally withstand reverse voltage on them for a while. It might be worth trying the circuit without the exploded capacitor, it should work given 8V.

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Headphone out seem clean enough, its driven from a separate line drive IC. Plugging in headphones 99% mutes the speakers, but doesn't stop the noise!
I'll try and get the scope out the back of the spare room and see if I can figure anything out. I'm not liking the look of the speaker amp chips being powered off the 5V_VCC rail...

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Is it "normal" for these 24" sets to have the most annoying and horrible high pitched whine on the speakers? Its only just audible, but its constant and annoying!
I've just peeked at the circuit and it uses a PT2333 Class D for the speaker output, which explains a lot (how small is that audio chip!!), and there's nothing standout obvious wrong on the PCB, I just find it hard to believe someone would design something that makes such a horrible noise all the time.Last edited by Harvey; 08-28-2018, 04:23 PM.
