    MESR-100 ESR meter...

I'm on the lookout for an ESR meter, I've read a lot of the other posts and opinions on some of the other available meters, and saw this one on eBay, and was wondering if anyone else here had any experience of this unit?

Is it a clone of another unit perhaps?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170871601239

There seem to be quite a few sellers on eBay selling the same model. And it seems a bit cheaper than the others, so might be something for someone like myself who might only want to check a handful of caps a week/fortnight.

Don't know anything about it. That is a very good price if it does what it says.
This is the one I have. It originally came from Russia I think. It does a good job, but the price is higher than the one you are looking at. I think I remember paying about $75.00 for mine.

      It is locked at 100KHz.

And so its someway usable for small in capacity electrolytic.
For large ones you must have 100Hz as minimum.

About accuracy looks very simple design and it should work well.
But it does the half of the job ..

By half the job, you mean because it doesn't measure the capacitance, or something else it's lacking?

I saw another one, works out at less than £50 including shipping from Hungary, and does both ESR and capacitance: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140750932752

I know it doesn't look the most portable, but I was half thinking about getting a kit and putting it into a box like this anyway. Anyone with any experience of this one? The display looks familiar, so the insides may be the same as some of the kits that are out there.

I also like the fact it runs off a power supply. I know it makes it less portable, but some of the others I've seen require the case to be cracked open to replace batteries, which is far from ideal.

No no, I am not suggesting home made builds of instruments, that some one does the assembly at his own back yard.

Even the cheapest Chinese meter was checked by engineers, well payed or not it is another subject.

For anyone who's interested, I found a thread on eevblog about this unit, has some internal photos shown. I might give it a shot, unless anyone has any suggestions, or alternative recommendations.

If you go to the EEV website or YouTube video's, he has done worlds of testing on electronic test devices such as DMMs and Oscilloscopes. Doing side by side comparisons and he might have done one on ESR Meters. It is worth a check. If you have never seen this guy, he is a one man show, but I am sure he is very knowledgeable. Just might be a little on the Type A side of things. Maybe even certifiable.

In a video you can watch the actor, but no the true man.
This is a common mistake made by many.

This is why you have to watch or read many sources of information and give less attention about the styling.

so this one is blocked at 100khz _ small capacity electrolytic, can you give some exemple ?

, i'm still a new bie in this sector

There is not much to say other than the fact that the "smart" LCR they are capable to select by them self's the proper test frequency for the advanced test, by determining first the size of the capacitor.

By using a simple example its like having a multimeter with fixed ranges, and the "smart" LCR represents the modern meter with autoranging.

About finding of what frequency is preferable for a specific size of a capacitor.
You can have a look of the user's guide of the Agilent U1733C.

I'm also near to order an ESR meter, too many of my friends are asking me to fix they faulty LCD monitors due to bad caps...
I was searching on ebay and find also the MESR-100 but I also found the kits from EVB in Portugal based on Bob Parker design.
About the comment from Kiriakos GR regarding the 100 kHz locked frequency of the Ebay ESR meter, would a kit from B. Parker be a better tool? Is it also locked to one frequency? This is unclear from the various pages I have read!

I have see this simplified ESR in action, other than the locked frequency, also haves very low resolution at the display.

The printed values on it, are far out for called as accurate, which is understandable for one meter that is trying to do anything by working in a single range.

Soon I will review the DER EE / DE-5000 which is a instrument of another class.
I got passionate with those ESR meters and I made a small photo gallery about them.

I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

I have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board

I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery...

Backlight strip quality, Amazon vs Ebay vs ShopJimmy. Is there really a difference?

                                      Hello everyone!

Recently I've noticed that some ShopJimmy backlight strips don't have double-sided tape installed upon them when an application calls for it, and I must purchase the tape separately. In a recent chat conversation with a customer service agent I told them if this tape wasn't applied when it was called for I would begin to consider ordering my backlight strips elsewhere. It looks like this time may have come.

I recently got a TCL 65S4 with bad backlights. After looking at the SJ listing here: https://www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-jl-d65...365as-m-led-ba...

Changing the scale of an analog meter
                                      by jorpec
                                      Hi

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

                                      Thnaks

How an incandescent light and a ESR meter ** friend**have a machine blowing fuses

About a month ago we had a transformer jumper wire that burned in two different places between two transformers caused over $200 thousand dollars worth of damage to VFD drives at least 10 of them and a memory card and quite a few power supply as well

Now we have most of the equipment that got damaged back up and running except a feeder that has issues and we are waiting for some parts for

Now we also have another piece of equipment that was blowing fuses on the 110 volt controller switch circuit with the ā€œEā€ stops and one switching power (24 volt) supply and a transformer...
