Re: EVB ESR Meter (Bob Parker Design)
looks identical to the ea version except the case.
does yours show ea at power on? ?? at power dowm?
micro on mine even has the green dot.
i suspect that is just a repackaged ea kit.odd power button though.looks like the label retains it?

The caps are Nitai NP, Lelon REA 85oC and Jamicon TK
Here is the microcontroller ZiLOG Z86E0412PSC 1866 running custom firmware and also the Kingbright GaAIA 7 segment led displays

Re: EVB ESR Meter (Bob Parker Design)
Here is how the meter was packaged. The test leads were very nicely wrapped in cling film (not shown). The packaging is good. The meter was paid by paypal evening of the 9th and received morning 14th. cost was 68 euro + shipping = 74 euro.Last edited by willawake; 01-14-2006, 10:10 AM.Leave a comment:

Bob Parker ESR Meters
Here is a new test instrument which i received today. It is an ESR Meter based on Australian Bob Parker's famous design
It is built by EVB of Portugal. The pic above shows what you get, namely the meter, two substantial test leads (i was quite impressed they are much thicker and larger than those you usually get with a cheap multimeter. Also you get a 100 ohm 5w power resistor which you use to discharge filter capacitors in power supplies to avoid damaging the meter when you test them. You also get an owners manual which is quite comprehensive and in good English. Lastly you get a 2 year guarantee certificate.Tags: None

by chth96I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that
"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."
Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...-

by flibidyI have here a Magnum IA.100 which belongs to my parents.
The unit powers on & when the relay kicks in, you get a pop from the speakers (this might sound weird but is usual behavior for this amp). However, you get nothing coming through it from any of the inputs & no pops and crackls from any of the controls.
Because of the sound from the speaker when the amp turns on I have assumed that the output section probably works but I could be wrong & I'm not sure how to test that side of things further.

by eccerr0rMost analog meters are actually current driven - a current is needed to deflect the pointer full scale. They can be lots of different values. There are ones that can take several amperes to swing the pointer as they have internal shunts.
On the other hand there are many that are rated in microamps for the intent that they draw as little power as possible from the devices under test. Some are 1mA, 500µA, 200µA, 100µA, and the ubiquitous 50µA frequently used in analog VOMs. There are even 20, 25, 30 µA and even down to 10µA. Been collecting a bunch of different ratings and... -
by chth96Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor.... -
by khelaneHello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
Is there a way... - Loading...
