this wasnt about dos, it was about windows.
if you want to extend it to other micro$oft o.s. then dos, and never forget OS/2.
i remember gates saying at a press conference "windows is dead - the future is OS/2"
it was 32bit and meant to replace win3.11
then for some reason he sold the rights to IBM and released win95 instead.
and going back to the list, there are atleast 2 major streams of NT,

Have to deal with stupid Vista at work,,, xp/2k i dont have much problem with, still deal with em a little... but yeah...

So far I like Win7, didn't mind Vista except for the print spooler crashes, and it's impatient attitude when it thinks old slow apps are "not responding"
We have 1 app that leaks memory like crazy on Win7, and the vendor isn't interested in fixing it.
XP SP3 still rules though, would be nice if the whole company was still on it.36 Monitors, 3 TVs, 4 Laptops, 1 motherboard, 1 Printer, 1 iMac, 2 hard drive docks and one IP Phone repaired so far....Comment

I dunno tho, as you saw in my previous posts I love the old Win2K, it's IMO the best OS ever and will never be surprassed
That being said I used the Win7 RC allot on my home computer, the workhorse so to say, I really liked it (as I said in some old threads back then last year)
I also upgraded and reinstalled the RC to a later version once, and yet again started using it...
However then when the final version was released I have pretty much only installed it, I don't use it at all, strange how that is
I have Windows XP x64 and Win7 x64 setup in a dualboot cenario, and I almost always choose to start Win XP x64, I simply like it more...
That being said I have one major difference vs Topcat, for my actual work computer (yea, at the company I work at that is) I have the same setup, XP x64 and Win7 x64
Originally it had XP x86 and I hated it because I kept running out of RAM when running my CAD/CAM apps...
Now I only run Win7 on that, unlike my "home" system...
Even tho XP x64 is also installed in a dualboot setup on that machine...
Isn't that strange?
I just find myself being way more productive in Windows 7 at work...
However for playing with stuff at home productivity does not really come into play now does it?

Nope PCBONEZ its happened to one other person that I know of. My brother had a cd-rw blow up in his drive a few years back. It killed the plextor drive too. Blew the front out of it. Makes me worry sometimes as I have two drives in my PC and they are right at eye level here on my desk.

no, look at the hub of old microsoft disks,
they are often chipped instead of smooth.
it only takes a tiny crack to form and the centrifugal force of a 48 / 52 speed drive can rip the disk apart!Comment

it's also possible that the chemicals in the holographic print effect the plastic.
take a pressed cd, wipe it over with white spirit for a few seconds.
then drop it onto a hard floor.
a lot of times, it will shatter violently.Comment

Whoever said "PENGUIN POWER" needs to be put back in line.
Ease of use wise (the basics like internet, mail, and office work) it's okay but once you want to do something cool with it, you got all sorts of barriers from poorly designed coding workspaces to dependencies and libraries that seem to be out of date withing days and enough coders who read how to code in the first palce off the back of a cereal box to make your head spin.
Then there is ubuntu which goes out of date every six months.Find Nedry!
Check the Vending machines!!

If I install Win7 in VirtualBox or KVM, will Windows be tied to that exact hardware? Can I take the VM and move it to another machine at some point without having to re-activate Win7?
I bought a replacement board identical to the one Win7 is licensed on. But of course it failed. I have two more identical boards in my basement. Running out of acceptable hardware will not happen for quite a few years, hopefully.
But I am looking forward to that day when I cannot find any hardware, and I have to use emulation. Does anyone have experience with this? -
Well I think that I have a GTX660Ti that's dead but I think I should give it one last try with its original OS and drivers: win7 home premium. While I can't stomach using win* of any type (I'm 100% Linux these days) I think I have to give benefit of the doubt to drivers, etc.
So... I have the original CoA for Win7 home premium and it's an OEM license. And I have the whole computer that the GTX660Ti came in (it was reportedly working too), minus the original hard drive, what could I download and run the machine temporarily to verify the GTX660Ti works with Windows or not?

Hello there!
I was doing some usual stuff, browsing the internet, listening to music, coding, etc. and my computer froze. It looked like the website couldn't process the request (logging into the account, there was the loading symbol) and it took a few seconds, then my computer totally froze except for the mouse cursor. It lasted for about a minute and I got the BSOD. It happened yesterday and today (just now).
I managed to get the MEMORY.DMP content, but I don't really understand it. Could somebody help me?

I kindly ask for help with Thinkpad BIOS/ME repair.
Thinkpad W541 board bought from Aliexpress, so I have no service tag nor S/N. It is 1GB version Q1 (K1100 nVidia GPU). BIOS 2.23, EC 1.13, ME 9.1.32.1002.
It worked fine until I tried to remove whitelist.
Steps taken:
- battery out, CMOS coin cell out, laptop disassembled; I kept LAN/USB subboard connected
