    Re: Printer question

    hey, this really depends.

some current models still work with separated cartdridges, some others are of those named 3-in-1 (exposure, develop and transfer) where the drum is attached to the developing roller and transfer roller and also with the toner load.

You are right this new models also contain the waste toner container in it.

I'd suggest you to get one of those if you dont plan to print a lot, the separeted schemma i recommend for volume users (and they tend to be more expensive since the 3-in-1...

    Re: Printer question

Laser printers are ok on these days... toner usually dont "go bad" (genuines, on regular basis) and can last longer than an ink and beat em as for quality and performance even on low use or almost none.

As for the specs it depends on your needs, i do not have on mind any specific model for your requirement but i bet there should be a good one cheap option.

I always advise Canon laser printers just because by experience they last ok, work fine and are easy to fix.

    peace....

nice... not same xp with me on same type of machines... well the version might be the kicker here, i havent tried the newest version... but i guess i tried the previous one... id still recommend it, and i casually use it, specially its bootable version. other than that id say when its installed and running with all its options and services i do get to notice some performance difference idk, perspectives.

    peace....

I always recommend NOD... the option for Free Avast + Malwarebytes Pro i dont know, i feel Avast is not that light after all... as for MSSE, it barely is ok to me but it does work... my choice for a limited PC would be either AVG or NOD.

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

^ hey, thanks for the info.

I will make new images for the Reconstructor and then give it a try.

I think Im out of resources to figure which drive died first (if that applied) cause I know no one actually was paying any attention to the whole server, but I will run my last shtos on that asking.

One good detail on me testing and recovering from the images is the room i get for failure xD

i will update after the whole process is done again but this time with new images,

    thanks again,

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

Update: About the files I took with me on the weekend some of them needed no work to be ready, others were in parts. Today I worked on the backed up images again, this time I used both R-studio and RAID reconstructor, I used same image files (the ones i created with Rstudio... i dont know if i should create images for each software), Created a new virtual block: I have succesfully recovered way more files than I expected, including now a very specific file I was looking for, I think I could work better on the Virtual RAID if I knew the specifics about...

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

update: I worked on my backed up images, created a virtual RAID with them and went thru the scanning process, many files were recovered and now checked, I managed to bring some of em with me but unfortunetly not all (some of em are Gbs sized), I still havent looked completely to everything already recovered (way too many stuff in there and I ran outta time today) good to know I didnt clearned the disks and managed to get em up, backed up and recovered, too bad the process took me so long and seems its gonna take more time that I need to find everyday,...

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

    ^ lol is kinda hard

update: images done sector by sector with R-studio... two of the three disks reported to have a very small area in use, and the rest of the space shown as empty, the first disk i tried was displayed as a whole empty disk, but at least this software actually allowed me image em,. Once again, no other imaging software allowed me to image em, I am curious to know if with the images I could recreate the RAID to try to extract the file, also curious if the configuration I applied on the server array adapter actually made...

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

update: i replaced the SATA drive to a IDE drive, formatted and installed XP PRO SP3, updated the adapter BIOS and set both board and adapter BIOS settings to default, now i have successfully booted to XP and the adapter appears up and ready in the device manager, in the disc managing area i see the disc as unassigned space (no unit letter neither) and the only option I get is to create a new partition, i have not done that procedure at this point (to this disc).

i tried to backup with Snapshot but Im unable to select the drive, also shown...

^ i do get to step 4, and i have looked to all the options i see regarding booting options... i am still gonna look for more options and boards,,,, i just havent managed to properly boot with the drive properly attached... i think this oem board with limited bios is giving me that hard time. im also starting to be suspicious at my SATA HDD....

    update:

@digge: thanks, i am getting info on the adapter, i have already tried different jumper configs but they only change the ID of the drive,

    updating soon,...

hey, thanks for the input, it is exactly at step 5 i get stuck, i cant boot XP once it installed the adapter AND then attached a drive, at this moment I'm trying this again but Im gonna give it some time and see if i get anything after the black screen. I have looked all over the (limited) moBo BIOS and in the adapter utility, still havent found a working configuration. I dont know if there's a chance that this particular board doesnt support this kind of set up. I already tried a WinPE but it doesnt recognize the adapter.

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

update: i tried Acronis and it recognizes the disc as SCSI interface, problem is I select the ~33Gb disc and it shows me an error window: "an empty disc cannot be selected as source disc for cloning" im stuck here cause i want to believe the disc, to begin with, is not empty.

ideas are welcome, i will keep updating.

    peace.

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

update: I tried with RIPLinux, Gparted recognizes the ~30Gb drive as unallocated space, if i try to run Ghost I cant choose that drive, olny the other 80Gb SATA drive, thus I still havent been able to backup that drive. I dont have that unit on the mounting options, I tried on Mint and did not find any utility to try to back it up, Gparted also shows the drive but thats it.

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

Update: Thanks, I think before modifiyng the BIOS more im gonna try the Linux options again (and now with the knowledge you've shared. )

WXPSP3 actually detected the SCSI card and "correctly" installed it: I thought this was easy solution, but turns out is not since once i attached a SCSI drive into the adapter (and no the adapter by itself) I no longer am able to boot WXP. -My best solutions do not allow me to work the disk on WXP.- EDIT: Frustating, I do not know if the times where i faced the black screen could've been good...

  • Re: File recovery on RAID5

update: So far i havent been able to make my image backups, i cant seem to boot my SATA hdd where i want to load the backup software and place the images (its a 160Gb SATA HDD with a clean WXPSP3 install, when i actually attached the PCI SCSI Adapter WITH a SCSI disk on ID0 i cant boot anymore the SATA drive (the OS did install the SCSI adapter when i first plugged it, withOUT a SCSI disk attached), I have tried everything including BIOS update (MoBo BIOS update) and still cant -and i cant keep looking for another board atm-, my best shot was with a boot...

@dood, @mockingbird, @Per Hansson: Thank you for the inputs.

The original server is/was DL380 G4, and for what I was told it was the server hardware the failing issue, not the disks (still I cant say that 100% for sure).

No initialization was made, also no zeroes format, I have already found Norton Ghost 8, and am gonna start the reading on the documentation of the other software mentioned.

Im guessing the individual image must be made by attaching the drives one at each time with the adaptec card I have....
