    Re: Done with Win7

Whoever said "PENGUIN POWER" needs to be put back in line.
Ease of use wise (the basics like internet, mail, and office work) it's okay but once you want to do something cool with it, you got all sorts of barriers from poorly designed coding workspaces to dependencies and libraries that seem to be out of date withing days and enough coders who read how to code in the first palce off the back of a cereal box to make your head spin.
Then there is ubuntu which goes out of date every six months.

I said it and i am proud of my choice to use linux.

out of date? no, it gets a refresh every 6 months sou you get the best of what is out there. every normal release is supported for 18 months, while every LTS release gets 3 for desktop ed., and 5 for server ed.

windoze might be supported longer but since 'buntu is free, it is not a can't afford issue, it is find a convenient time a "select upgrade to ____" in the update manger, say yes to 2 dialogs, and let it to its thing. easy. not the driver hell known as a windows update...

bottom line; we all have our preferences... they can clash...

As I recall the original release of XP required a patch to get USB working which means it was 'out of date' BEFORE it was released.
        -
The six month cycle is to accommodate the same issues as MS does with updates and service packs of which when it comes to MS there are generally 100's for each OS version.
If that amounts to 'out of date' then MS is 'out of date' on a monthly basis.

Not to mention Windows has Security flaws that are almost as old as you are.

The only OS that I had that ended up broken every few weeks was Windows ME. Never could figure out why it was broken. Funny thing is that I liked ME. I got Xp Pro and hated it. Killed it off and put ME back on. In time After revisiting XP a few times I found the settings I needed to change and it became my OS of choice. I always run Xp with Sp3. Xp does what I want to do with no nag screens. It keeps quiet and does its job. Did try my Vista a few times. Vista is a true dog! I don't even know where the CD is now and I don't care. Windows 7 is better but not by much. Its not intuitive or straight forward in any way. Maybe the newer PC using generation likes to have and OS that holds there hands the whole way but I don't. When the time comes I hope there are some good people out there who will capture all of the MS Xp updates and offer them online. Hell I'd love to have them on a DVD right now!

He's entitled to his opinion, just as you are to yours. Nobody needs to be "put back in line."

                Let's keep it civil.
A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.

                  Re: Done with Win7

Simply put, since computer processor speeds have hit a ceiling and havent changed within the last 6 years or so, there is no need for a new operating system from Microshaft. Seriously, what can they improve on without hardware changing first?? At least nothing that would be worth a new OS for everyone to buy. PC hardware changes has brought about changes within the operating systems. With hardware not changing much right now, and there is no demand for it, this is the brick wall.

All of the " Icing on the cake " is overrated with Vista and Win7. I have a feeling that microshaft knows that they cant do much more with an OS so this is why they went full force with the Droid, which makes sense.

Correct me if I am wrong but:
Didnt microshaft make an icon based OS after apple made one first?
Didnt microshaft make the Zune AFTER apple made the Ipod?
Didnt microshaft make the Droid AFTER apple made the Iphone?

Microsoft has bitten off of other's hard work and innovation.

Microshaft is already hard at work on Windows 8 and that is a fact...

                        no, that's bus speeds.

cpu's have increasing cache, wider pipelines, parallel cores etc.

only micro$oft thinks the o.s. should soak this up though.
coming from the amiga, i see it as the o.s. should be small & fast and it's the app's that may max the system out.

i want to download a torrent, browse the web, compile 600,000 lines of "c" code and play mp3's all at the same time with 1gig of ram.
and still not see any slowdowns.

and i do just that - but not with windoze.

And what was wrong with Xp Media Center? I have a virgin unopened copy of it here. Soon as I find a Dell COA for it I'll use it. If this dog can run full boat bloat windows 7 premium I'm sure it can handle Xp Media Center.
