Well I got a free flat screen monitor today. It is an Optiquest Q9 Model VS11201.This thing is made by Viewsonic I think. I just can't seem to get the brightness, contrast, and gama set just right to please me. What is so cool about a flat screen monitor that is pissing you off...LOL I have much more control over the monitor in my ATI 7000 software than I have at the buttons on the unit its self. Do I need to install drivers that may have come with this thing when new for it to work right? Went to the Viewsonic site and couldn't even find a listing for Model VS11201. In windows its listed as just a plug and play monitor. When I look at the choices windows Xp has in drivers for Viewsonic VS11201 isn't listed. I think I like my CRT better. It was getting weak but it didn't give me any grief.

Find out what its native resolution is, and set it for that. A monitor shouldn't need drivers. An older LCD monitor typically looks horrible in resolutions other than their native.<--- Badcaps.net Founder

The native resolution for this model monitor is 1280x1024. I agree with Topcat- keep this monitor at its native resolution. I found this info by searching for 'Optiquest VS11201'.Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.Comment

Yes I found that too. 1280x1024@60Hz. God my Icons look like stars in the winther sky! This isn't going to work at all! Is there a 17" or 19" flat screen that works well at 800x600??? Things do look good now but its all way to dang small. The Brightness is also busted on this thing. Contrast works well but the brightness does next to nothing.

Set it in its native, and then tell windows to use large fonts and icons if you're having hard time seeing them. No this thing isn't worth it. I'm back on the CRT. When I get the bug to mess with the flat screen again I will redo the fonts and Icons in windows. I just expected more. The fact that the Viewsonic took a five foot dive to the floor before it was given to me may play into it not working so well. Sometimes "new" is the way to go.

Ok I got the Optiquest working good to 800x600 and below. It was locked in a RGB mode. The only problem is that the brightness is still almost non-functional. There are also some scratches, and smudges on the screen. Works for me. I can't see anyway so 800x600 is good. I'll bump it up if I'm watching a wide screen movie. Now how do you all see anything at 1280x1024??? At that resolution the icons look like potters marks on Old English Wedgewood. Text looks like fly shit on the screen. i would say that it depends on the size of the screen. I have a 17 CRT monitor and to me, the 1280x1024 is a bit too high, I can still read it, but just a tad bit too small for me.. but if i had a 17" to 19" LCD, then that might add enough for me to go to those resolutions. One thing you can do if your video card supports it is run at half (technically quarter) resolution. It usually looks OK on an LCD as the pixels are simply doubled in each direction.
For your 1280x1024 monitor that would be 640x512 which might be too small. We have a user at work with severe vision problems. We run her 1920x1200 monitor at 960x600 and she can work fine.Comment

This thing measures 19" diag. I can deal with it at 800x600. Since I looked at the manual and set it up right its much better. Loading the real ATI drivers for my card helped too. Did some Netflix streaming this morning and it was fine. Did have some jerky motion but that same movie played off a DVD flowed just fine."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. I'm going to try and swim in the deep end of the pool right now. Going to see if I can resize everything in windows so I can use the 1280x1024 resolution. There is also some color management software that came with this thing that I don't have yet. Some reds are displayed a little to to orange side on the desktop.

I always try to use the highest res possible and just bump up the size of the icons/fonts. My CRT is at 1920x1600.
Also can't really stand 60hz refresh rate on most screens. I can pick it out on any crt monitor.Comment

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.
The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any... -

Good evening, gentlemen.
I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.
To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.
I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.
