Re: Toshiba Regza 42HL167 no picture
OK cool. I'll probably buy a replacement board and hope that fixes it. Everything seems to point to that being the problem. Although it seems that it is a fairly regular issue with this TV so I wonder how long it'll fix it seeing it would be a used part...

Same symptoms on yours? Everything does seem to point to it.

Toshiba Regza 42HL167 no picture
I picked up a dead Toshiba 42HL167 HDTV a while back and have tinkered with it off and on.
When I turn it on, the backlights kick on, a second later the picture appears, then it goes completely dark. Then a second or two later the backlights kick back on again, then after another second the picture appears, then dark again, and it stays dark.
At first I thought it was just a backlight failure, but now I'm realizing that it isn't just the backlights. When the screen goes dark it is also no longer sending a picture signal to the panel. I verified this by sending a...

Re: AOC 22LVWk only turns on with 3 lamps connected
OK now I'm totally crosseyed but I think I got the right part number on the one on the right. It is 10H60C which I believe is a 10A Schottky rectifier.
I'll have to come back to this later and see if I can find out which wire is PS_ON. None are labeled (annoying). I'll test both with and without the lamps connected (I'm assuming the inverter circuit should technically shut down under a zero lamp situation).
I checked the mosfets on the bottom for shorts between pins and found none. The two center ones...Last edited by Sparky; 09-24-2012, 11:10 PM.

Re: AOC 22LVWk only turns on with 3 lamps connected
OK that was weird. I plugged it in with just 3 lamps connected and got a steady 5.1 volts, 0.2 volts higher than when the main board is hooked up. Connected all 4 lamps and as soon as I plugged it in it started its flashing backlight again. But as soon as I put the meter to the 5V line to test all 4 backlights came on and stayed on for 2 seconds, then went out (the line tested 5.1V again). While they were on there was a hisssssss sound from the board somewhere. Subsequent mains connections either have made it turn on and hiss for...

Re: AOC 22LVWk only turns on with 3 lamps connected
Those two transistors at the top each have legs 1 and 3 attached together via the traces. Seems a little odd. So 0 ohms between 1 and 3. I'm getting 159 ohms between 1 & 2 on the right transistor, and a very, very high reading between 1 & 2 on the left transistor.
To the left the two little heatsinks that look like they should each have a transistor do not. Not sure what purpose they serve as the are just sitting there.

Hate to tell you this but Dell laptop BIOS passwords are virtually uncrackable.

Re: AOC 22LVWk only turns on with 3 lamps connected
I have been but haven't found anything yet. 2 seconds to off with a CCFL disconnected seems to make sense.
I'm starting to think that 27V reading is too high.Last edited by Sparky; 09-24-2012, 08:57 PM.

Re: AOC 22LVWk only turns on with 3 lamps connected
Just did some more testing. I was a little mistaken on the 3/4 lamps thing.
3 lamps, it turns on, then about 2 seconds later the screen goes dark as the backlight turns off but the monitor is still on.
4 lamps, it turns on, then as soon as the backlight turns on it shuts down and restarts.
The 5V (well, measured at 4.9V) going to the logic board drops to 0 as soon as the backlight makes the monitor restart, as does the 27V to the inverters (the taller caps between that feed and direct ground...Last edited by Sparky; 09-24-2012, 08:31 PM.

AOC 22LVWk only turns on with 3 lamps connected
I have a 22" AOC 22LVWk monitor that would turn on, green LED, then right as the backlight would turn on it would shut down and repeat the cycle. Unplugging any one of the 4 CCFL lamps would allow it to stay on.
It had some Hermei caps in it (which by the way have the same vent stamp as Panasonic, shame on them!) and none of them were bulged or venting, but I recapped it anyway with Panasonics and Nichicons. It still has the same issue. On a whim I yanked the large cap (Elite) and stuck a Capxon cap I had in there (just for testing purposes). Still the same issue. Turns on,...

Olevia LT37HVS "on" but black screen and no response
I have this 37" Olevia TV at work I'm trying to fix. Belongs to a client. It was originally making some funny buzzing noises then just quit working one day. So I brought it to the shop and popped open the cover. Sure enough, bad caps in the PSU. I recapped the power supply with Panasonics (mostly FM and a few FC aside from some of the really tiny caps).
Now the TV no longer makes weird noises but when you plug it in the Olevia logo glows blue for a second, then turns off and the backlights kick on. It doesn't respond to the power button or any button for that matter.

OK I'll recap it. I just won't try to power Bloomfield with a GTX580 with it

Re: Msi al-b500e 500w psu
Yep tested it. Wires are in the right spots (except for that missing center 12V wire), keys are correct and fit a video card fine.

Re: Msi al-b500e 500w psu
If they are that bad I'm surprised none are bulged and/or leaky. Although what may have helped was while it was in a server (running a Pentium D) the fan control knob on it was cranked to maximum, so there was decent airflow through there. Probably the only thing that kept it from popping more caps then.

Msi al-b500e 500w psu
MSI AL-B500E PSU... is it any good? Hmm.
Did a search of the model number, came up with this newegg link:

Apex/Allied, huh? Not reassuring. And to think this unit was in a server? And what is MSI doing rebranding an ALLIED unit of all things? Shame on them.
Weird thing is this unit that I have actually has PCIe connectors, while the original doesn't. Two, in fact. 20A on the 12V rail seems pretty low to put two PCIe plugs on a PSU however. And 52A on the 5V rail? Sounds...

Re: Hitachi hard drive weird noise
My brother had a Hitachi that did that. It was a drive he got as a warranty replacement when his deathstar died. Made him uneasy after that previous drive had died, so he got rid of it.
