Dell monitor PSU vs Dell laptop PSU

    Hi there!
Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs right in and feels normal, but the LED on the monitor does not light up nor does the monitor turn off when I touch the On symbol in the bottom right corner, hence the question:

Do Dell's monitor and laptop PSUs have the same plug, or do they have different diameter central pin? They could have different length pin as well. It looks like the laptop plug's pin sits very deep in the ground tube and may not reach far enough into the monitor's socket's central post.

I could take measurements if needed.

    Regards

The question is why did the monitor PSU melt ? I would guess the monitor has just almost a short on the power supply inlet, and your laptop PSU might have an OC protection, contrary to the melted monitor PSU. However this is a probable reason, it must not be true, and the plug/inlet are not compatible, however I have not the right knowlege about this.

If you have the melted PSU you might transplant the plug from the melted PSU with a short part of the cable on the working PSU cable and see then if it works. Or just cut off the cable frm the melted PSU, connect it to a ajustable voltage Lab PSU, set 19.5V, and test the monitor and it's current draw. Current must not exceed nominal Monitor Maximum Power draw divided by 19.5V.

I'm also not sure, but DELL laptop PSU's might have also a simple digital interface communicating with laptop, so this might be the reason why it not works with a monitor, as monitors most probably miss such interface.

Meanwhile, I've gone over the manual and found out this:
Delta DA65NM111-00and Chicony HA65NS5-00 are the two compatible PSUs that Dell lists fo this monitor. They are generic for a line of various laptops as well. So they should have a compatible plug, and your assessment of the monitor's demise is likely spot-on.

Seeking Advice: Repairing Dell U3425WE Monitor with Faulty USB-C/Thunderbolt Ports
        by Borse2008
        Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice or opinions on what to do with a monitor issue I’ve run into. Apologies in advance is this crossovers a few forum categories.

I have a Dell U3425WE, which I've recently replaced with another model. That said, the original unit is still fully functional in terms of the display — it works perfectly over HDMI and DisplayPort. However, the USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports have stopped functioning correctly. The Issue:
        • The 90W Thunderbolt 4 port (circled in the photo) no longer charges or powers any device, including laptops or MacBooks.
        • There’s

Aorus 17G YD laptop, broken display, could not switch to external monitor
        by ArchangelGabriel
Hello guys! I need a little help, I have one laptop for repair, it is an Aorus 17G YD, gaming laptop. Broken display, some cable ripped form daughter board connector, case broken, battery discharged and probably locked, etc. After I did the most tedious job I ever did on soldering back the broken cables (shielded cable) , I measured resistance on CPU and GPU core, 3 and 5 v ps and any coils I find on the board, everything seems to be fine. After I plugged the charger I don't get the power led light on from the charger connection maybe because the battery is locked , but on power button I have

Dell laptop model PP24L won't start from ac adapter
        by mikey5791
        Dear all,

Bought this used Dell laptop PP24L(studio 1435) in Jan 2022. It was running smooth on 64 bit Windows 7 pro from processor Intel core Duo T6400@2Ghz with 2GB RAM. The laptop battery was charging and working fine until few months back the opening screen will display something like "replacing the battery warning", press F1 to continue. Normally i press F1, the laptop will proceed to Windows and i can use as normal.

But last week, after i pressed F1, the laptop just shut down. I suspected the laptop battery is dead. So i pulled out the battery and...

Old Dell E5400 Laptop ( Purchased in the year 2008)
        by Mots06
Hi, I'm unable to find the motherboard number (PPID number) or the board view for this old laptop. My laptop won't start, and when I enter the serial number on the Dell website, it says the number is invalid. The sticker on the bottom is unreadable because it has faded over time. Unfortunately, I'm unable to start the laptop to use the power cell or explore other options.I needed the CMOS Cell & it also seems the Laptop will not start now because of the power switch issue, which is yet to be detected.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
        by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...
