agreed! only drivers needed are video drivers (easy, machine detects it, for web browsing w/o heavy gaming or compiz) and wifi drivers, which is easy if you have an xp/2k .inf file (install "windows wireless drivers" from software center), or check ubuntu forums, where you can usually find copy n' paste terminal commands. for that matter, for the few things that need terminal, you can find copy n' paste commands SOMEWHERE... usually Ubuntu or Debian forums. very hard to screw up as long as you make sure you highlighted the right text.

And dual boot exist. On my laptop, Arch and Haiku and for my new computer, it will be Ubuntu and Windows XP or 7, not sure yet. 200$ for 7, i don't think i need it at that price when i could find XP for a lot cheaper.

i used media center 7 for like a month and while it was cool (and a HUGE upgrade from vista media center).. it was nowhere near as cool as plex.. i'm currently running a mac mini with a wiimote as a remote and downloading every show i watch.. then again. i'm one of those mac people. The only traditional pc in my house is the dell dedicated to testing stuff i write in ie6 (which i despise that i have to support but i have to support it).

yeah i knew about that but it doesn't do cable :-)

i'm legal lol... plus i have digital cable so i use QAM, am planning to get the new cablecard tuners when they come out

Oh, I'm SO much into games and they are SUCH a priority in my life that...
... for my last 'new' game ....
... I had to install a W95 emulator in W2k to even get the damned thing to load.

if this was a martial arts competition, then you's be DQ'd for too many low blows. we do in fact game. its called tremulous, TORCS, foobilliard, wine+compatible windows game, etc. the native ones are free. for my use, tremulous has excellend graphics. TORCS admittedly doesn't have the best graphics, but the controls and options are execellent. foobilliard is just plain fun, and the windows version is made in a way perfect for keeping on a flash drive to use on other computers.

we care more about value than bling on games. we figure that if we want to do pay-for games, then we'll buy a console.

yes, they are real games. why do you say they are not?

and yes linux people game. some do what i mentioned, some dual-boot windows and linux, some use virtualbox to run windows games on linux, some use a console/second computer w/ windows. we all do our things. we can choose to use linux for things other than gaming if we choose to. we can choose to use linux to game if we want to. its all up to the user.

I use BOTH Linux and Windows. - Never said any different.
I hammer and applaud both of them on their strong and weak points depending on which specific characteristic is under discussion.

They are real games but they aren't commercial or even very popular games. There are real native linux clients/servers of commercial games. i.e UT2003/2004

The games he posted are free because he objects to downloading and has no $$ to waste on the commercial stuff. I'd venture to say that linux has slightly more games than mac but if you come from the windows end, that is not saying much. Not everything has to run under wine.

Lol, tuxracer is like solitaire for linux, but it is fun.

VGA planets 3 rules! Ok i have not played it since 10 years, but if i had 10 real human friends willing to play i would surely play it again. :P

Last lan i've played was last spring and we played the first call of duty and we had a lot of fun.

Just want to say that what a real game is probbaly not the same for everyone... :P
