    Re: XP installation won't start

for a windows partition utility that could do what you want, well sorry to say but:

there is none... if you edited the partition in windows you would kill the system. its kinda the same reason why you cant have a car jump-start itself. you have to boot form another source. just use a live linux cd (use an older vid card if you must) and edit it there. esay and effective.

or find somebody with an sp2 cd and use that but enter your code. perfectly legal.

Okay, I gave up asking and went out looking so I got Partition Magic...censored censored censored...and now everything is fixed. Now I just have to wait for the replacement ram to arrive an a few weeks time.

      This was painful.

            Re: XP installation won't start

Nobody mentioned hiren's boot cd? It has partition magic, acronis disk director and memtest 2.xx. 9.8 also has winPE on it.

Acronis DiskDirector and Partition Magic will edit live partitions if you get them. Even your boot partition.

As for slipstreaming XP, I use nlite. It walks you through it. Everything is SP3 and IE8 with common sata AHCI drivers. I wish I could integrate the .NET packages but it won't let me. I've never burnt any coasters but I did make MCE cds that couldn't install media center. So i *can't* slipstream MCE.

I DON'T WANT NO FUCKING LINUX. I DON'T WANT TO BURN ANY MORE GOD DAMN CDS, AND FOR FUCKS SAKE, I AM NOT REINSTALLING WINDOWS.

I JUST WANT MY 130 FUCKING GIGABYTE PARTITION RESIZED BACK TO THE FULL TERABYTE THAT IS AVAILABLE ON THE GOD DAMN DRIVE. WHY IS THIS SO GOD DAMN HARD TO UNDERSTAND??!
The solution has been provided for you.
You can buy, or steal, Partition Magic 8.05.
Put it on a diskette, do the Error Check (always!), then resize.

If you try this on an obsolete machine that does not have the BIOS extensions, you will be limited to 137gb. This is a workstation limitation.

I own PMagic and use the DOS version constantly.
As long as you disabled the Defective Sector check first, and do the error scan first, it will do the job. The defective sector check is enabled by default, and will increase you run time to a few days.

                  Re: XP installation won't start

the linux was only to resize the windows. you don't have to install linux. only boot it and use the partition manager.

besides, what do you have against linux?

                    Re: XP installation won't start

like i said, pentium, you cannot edit a partition that you are booted from. it is like performing open heart surgery on your self. it just is impossible. why are you scared of a re-install if you just installed recently. use your head for 5 min.

besides, why can't you burn a cd. its easy. all you need is a burner. the software is free- try infra recorder

it will burn the iso files no problem.

ratdude747, I assume this is why he did not want to burn a cd.

The reason why he did not want to reinstall was because he installed Windows from an old disk which had SP1 integrated. He could only install it on a partition that was 130gb in size and after the install process he wanted to resize it to the maximum 1tb (his whole hard drive).
Hence why reinstall if he would have the same problem.

I assume that the old version of Windows did not support such large drives?

I can go to staples and get a stack of 100 verbatim cd's for $15.

Don't see why they are getting hard to find. Even so a dvd-rw drive is only about $22 now a days on newegg...

A hiren's CD is worth the burn even if you have 2 CDRs left.

                                  hirens is free.
it is considered "warez" due to its contents.by all means scan the disk after you burn it in case some clown tried to infest it with malware.
