Seiki SE39UY04 won't turn on - there's a scorch on the power board. Do I resolder?

    Hi all!

My Seiki SE39UY04 turned off while I was using it and I smelled fried electronics. The red standby LED turns on but pushing the power button does nothing.

There's a scorch mark on the power supply board. Flipping the board over, it looks like the solder at a joint somehow... evaporated. There's very little solder at that joint anymore - certainly not enough to create a solid connection.

Should I stick some tinfoil there and see if it fixes it? If not, wat do?

    Thanks!

Just resolder that one and the 2 next to it, see how they are cracked, then test it, be ready to turn the power strip off fast, in case it starts smoking again or anything.

It just needs to be resoldered, You should also resolder all the transformer connections on that board, and any other connections that use those rivets around the pins. No need for tin foil

+1, check and re-solder legs of component that are mounted on the heatsink too. You can see so many bad solder joints on that board.

Sounds good, I'll have access to a soldering iron next week.

Does anyone have an idea of how/why this occurred? My best idea is that a partial fracture occurred, and the remaining connection wasn't "electrically large" enough to handle the current going through it, and so it turned into a sorta filament and heated itself to the evaporation point. Or something...?

It is likely the connection did not get enough solder when they manufactured it, the transformer does vibrate and also the board heats and cools flexing the joint untill it failed and due to the higher voltage on that pin it arced. This has happened on circuit boards for a long time.

remove old solder and give the connections a good clean so the solder sticks .

Resoldering that joint fixed it! Thanks everyone!

Is there a way to edit the title? I'd like to tag it as [Solved]

                    Seiki SE39UY04 high pitch sound.
                    by casinada
I purchased the Seiki SE39UY04 in 2014 to use it as a monitor for my computer. A couple of months ago it started making a strange noise each time I turned the TV off. Last week it started to make a high pitch noise all the time. It also started to behave strangely as the color palette was intermittently all messed up. It looked like a switching power supply problem. I opened the TV and I found a couple of 1000uf x 25v were bulging. I measured all the capacitors on the power supply board and they were all good except the 2 bulging capacitors with measured values of 250uf and 350uf. I replaced the...

Seiki SE39UY04 Main board AND Tcon board bad?
                    by jayjr1105
Just replaced the main board on this set I picked up for free. The original main board made a weird hissing noise and the standby light just stayed red. New board came in, installed and the noise is gone and the set turns on now (standby light goes from red to blue) also the backlight comes on but now I have no on screen display. No splash screen, volume indicator, etc.

I made absolute sure the main board matched up with my set because there were 3-4 revisions.

Power supply seems rock solid. All voltages are reading as they should.

                    Tcon is cheap like...

Seiki SE42UMT, Standby Light, No power On
                    by TheDuDe06
Hi, I have a Seiki SE42UMT that don't power on anymore.

The standby red LED will stay lit but nothing else.
I can hear a constant high pitched sound from the power supply board.

I already have replaced the power supply but the problem still persist so, we can rule out that the power supply board is good.

I also inspected visually every boards and I can't see anything that could have burnt or blown capacitors.

Here are attached few pictures of the 3 boards.

                    Thank you !...

HP Elitebook 850 G8 flashes capsl 7 times after bios un/resolder
                    by Quin TeknoLife
                    Hello all,

I am trying to remove bios pw from this laptop so I desoldered, dumped and flashed and resoldered the chip on the back but ever since doing this caps lock just flashes 7 times, no fan no screen, also the charging/power light immediately comes on when connecting the battery.

                    What do I do?...

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 screen flickering, battery connector resolder or?
                    by paparazzo79
Hi guys.I guess I'm unlucky user who has this same issue like many are.
At start it didn't not start to flicker but immediately when battery reaches around 50 % screen starts to flicker (mostly when touching with finger) and then usually if it happens like 50x reboots.
I did not noticed it happens when is battery like 70-100% charged.
There are many possible solutions, if there is any, butI really don't have no one to resolder the battery connector, but then again if the battery is bad ofc that won't help.
There is a picture of the tape put above the battery so don't...
