Re: Micronta Talking Alarm Clock Full Recap
I have this clock back in my possession. My grandfather claims it still acts weird after some time. I'll take it apart and give it a closer inspection for cracked solder joints.

You may struggle with a 15w iron, especially when trying to clear the holes. You may have to use the wiggle in and out method heating the two holes off and on.Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps<b... wiggle in and...Last edited by jayjr1105; 06-28-2023, 06:54 AM.

Talk to me about tantalums
Lately I've been refurbing and modding a lot of gameboy consoles and usually their main filter cap is 100uf 6v. I've been pulling 100 and 150uf 6v tantalum caps from dead macbook logic boards and using them in place of the original electrolytic. They are small and solder in quite nicely. It's my understanding these are solid state with really low ESR and should outlast the console. Is there a difference between the yellow and black ones? Should I avoid tantalums in certain circumstances like audio circuits?...

Re: Post help identifying capacitors here
Is it bad or just acting bad because of the water damage/corrosion? Any 4.7uf 0603 is fine.

You may be right, for some reason I assumed low voltage....

Re: Post help identifying capacitors here
HI guys, trying to figure out the voltage of these caps I ordered a while back. Obviously 22uf but voltage is either 4 or 6.3. They are roughly 6mm tall and 5mm diameter....

Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?
Well, you live you learn. without cleanup my MG chem stuff is a clear winner. The new stuff leaves an almost burgundy crust that is really difficult to remove even with 99% alcohol....Last edited by jayjr1105; 03-26-2022, 02:29 PM.

Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?
According to the datasheet the Chipquick flux can be left on the board.

Same with the MG.

Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?
I took a gamble and bought this stuff and it arrived already. Wets really nicely and has adequate flux content from the residue you have to clean up afterwards. It doesn't finish quite as shiny as my MG Chemicals or Chipquick spool but it's miles better than the chinese .6mm stuff it's going to replace. It smells different than my other two as well but not sure what to make of that....

Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?
I bought a 1lb roll of lead free for $8 which was possibly a pricing error just so I have some lead free if anyone ever requests it...
Is this stuff any good? I have another leaded MG chemicals roll and it's my go to.

Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?
Yeah I messaged him to ask about the flux type and he wasn't sure but said he would contact the distributor. The date code is the 21 I believe (2021)

Was able to translate it but no flux info unfortunately.Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder ...believe (2021)...Last edited by jayjr1105; 03-20-2022, 06:07 PM.

Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?
Need some .6mm solder. I gave what was left of my cheap 63/37 to a friend who needed some. Stumbled on this brand. I figured "made in Japan" it must be half decent but it doesn't give flux percentage or flux type unless you can read japanese maybe. Anyone hear of it before? As long as it has 2% flux it pretty much checks every box for me. 63/37, .6mm, 2% or more flux....

Re: Replacing Fake Sanyo's in a SMPS
Those Panasonic's are impossible to find and don't have a restock data until December. I just used the chubby 680uf 35v KZE's I had. They fit fine with some angled installation.
