Another Vizio 70" came in...

Backlights came on, nothing on the display..

Think TCON... Get new one..

Fixes it.. Get a display now.. But it's "off" as in wanky. Right side of the panel is "melting" and "fluid"...

Thinking I pull the tabs off that side... Did it... It worked!!! It still amazes me when that works..

My question is, will there be a down side to this?? IE lower resolution, not as sharp, etc etc???

Just seems to me that there should be SOME down side to pulling those tab boards off the side...

Yes, there is a downside. You would lose some scan lines which will lower your resolution. However, this is detected minimal to the eye sight. You would hardly notice the difference. The up side is you still get to use the TV and see movies and images/pictures.

Yes, there is a downside. You would lose some scan lines which will lower your resolution. However, this is detected minimal to the eye sight. You would hardly notice the difference. The up side is you still get to use the TV and see movies and images/pictures.

Not sure how that can be. This is a "fixed pixel display" so losing scan lines will be visible. Put up a computer screen / fixed image, there are no missing scan lines. There will be some loss of uniformity across the panel as the "one arm drive" will be hard pressed to provide that complete "energy" needed.

In theory, yes this is what happens but it is hardly detectable. Try it or even search the forum for success stories on removing the side tabs to 'fix' screen issues and save a TV from the e-waste dump.

I think the tabs work in a push/pull configuration so no loss in scan lines and the remaining drivers seem to handle the job fine. Mine failed just shy of three years but I still wouldn't attribute that to the fact one side was ripped off.

Certainly budwich doesn't have to look it up as he was in on it from the beginning.

Just a minor nit pick..

Did you "cut" the tabs?? Or did you just pull them off??

If you cut the tabs, you might not get the clean break you need.. There might be residual "wiring" or even a short.. From what I have read, it's better to pull them off..

The best way to do that is to start from one side of the tab (top or bottom whichever is easiest) and pull upward in a single motion.. This allows a clean break and doesn't leave any remnant..

Thanks, I'll remember that if a next time. I used a razor and cut up against the panel. Do you know what those tabs are for?

Not really... I am more of a duct tape and superglue/knuckle-dragging ground-pounder kinda tech..
