    Vizio E65x-C2 question about Gamma

Hello everyone, I have a shot at this TV and was wondering if anyone else thinks this is potentially a "Gamma Correction Chip" issue, or maybe something similar?

    Thanks everyone!

Well (gulp) here it is in my living room and what the screen looks like with a picture on it.

    WOW that's bright!

    What do you all think?

How about the pictures of the T-CON board and some Gamma Voltage readings?
What is the history of the TV?
Hard to help with so little details information.

I haven't opened it up yet, so I'll post this pic of the one choice of t-con from ShopJimmy and ask for instruction on test points to obtain gamma voltage readings. I'll check the voltages and post pics of the back of the TV at that time.

Hasn't this tv been posted before? If you look at the corners, there is some darkness there plus the panel appears to have "waves" (left side). It appears to have had some led work done on it and maybe some of the layers aren't right.

Hi Budwich, I suspect the same thing about LED work and the waviness, diffusion sheets bunched up behind the screen artifact. I searched the forum and found only one other post for this model TV and it wasn't this one.

Still hoping for the test point locations and anticipated voltages to check the gamma chip.

yes I found the other post, different set... same strange wave display. But if the layers aren't back properly, can the display show up like this "white out"?

So what is the history of the TV? Someone worked it and took the panel apart?

The guy I got it from told me someone had worked on it before he got it. Apparently he wasn't sure of what repairs took place. He said him and his girlfriend were watching it when the screen went the way it looks now and has been this way since. This is all I know of its history.

probably won't help much as the poster didn't go much further based on responses. Its just strange that the display has similar waves.... not necessarily the "white out picture" though.

Maybe that is just the way the Panel failures for these sets show up. To be certain, if it was my personal TV I would try a T-CON Bd to be absolutely certain

It does look similar to how my screen appears.

They are cheap for this TV. I'll be looking at this today, later. Maybe by then I'll have the info I need to check the voltage readings related to gamma. I hope this isn't a failed panel. It's all gamma'd out but the motion of the images on the screen are smooth. Like you said, maybe this is how these panels fail, or will tend to fail as time goes on.

                            Board pix

Ok now I know a little more about this TV. First off, its pretty dusty in there, so it looks like its been a while since the back has been off, or whoever worked on it beforehand didn't clean anything. There are witness marks on the main board and trim bezel screws that show it's been apart previously.

It looks like the person I got it from was telling the truth when they said "they don't want to deal with it" and "didn't touch it". None of the dust inside looked like it was recently disturbed.

There are no obvious failures I can see on any of the boards, all of the cables are seated and all the board screws are tight.

Interestingly enough the main board itself is the same board in the Vizio E55-C2 I recently did a cap bypass on. Link: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ghlight=e55-c2

I'm now ready to test the Gamma voltages.

U600, U700 look to be for GAMMA BUFFER IC's.
What is the P/N as printed on top of the IC'S?
VG_A*, VG_B* test points look to be for GAMMA Voltages but we cannot tell until we verify the P/N of the IC's.

                                  U600:

                                  AUO-G1422
                                  1450 89.14
                                  59

                                  U700:

                                  AUO-G1422
                                  1501 98.15
                                  59

Since there are two, is one for the right side of the panel one for the left?

Since you are "thinking gamma", you could just do some "blind measuring" with hopes of seeing some "pattern" on the pins.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

                                          Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

                                          Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                                          Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
                                          by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
