    Vizio E470i-A0 LED Strips

I have a Vizio E470i-A0. Classic symptoms no picture but good sound. I did the "flashlight" test and do have a picture playing in there. I pulled off the back and tested the power supply board /LED board voltages. I checked Vout1 and Vout2. Both of these show voltages of around 130VDC. From what I have been reading the LEDs are bad.

What is a good source to purchase these LED strips?

Any tutorials on how to go about replacing them? I have the back off, but that is as far as I went (dont want to damage it futher).

I have read to replace ALL of the strips, but is it ok to find the bad one/ones and just replace them? Why do all of them if they are not bad?

    Thanks,
    Kirk

On this TV, I have never replaced the whole strip, just the bad LEDs. I had to get my LEDs from AliExpress. Make sure you determine the polarity of the LED and purchase the correct part.

        SLK,
I looked on AliExpress and the only ones that I can find are these
"110pcs LED LED Backlight 1210 3528 2835 1W 100LM Cool white LCD Backlight for TV TV Application". Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Do you use a heat gun or a hotplate to replace the LED's?

Sorry for the elementary q's. This is my first LED replacement.

Do you know what voltage these LED's are for this TV? I also found some SMD replacement LED's on Ebay Just don't know what voltage I need.

        Thanks,
        Kirk

I use a hot plate, less chance of melting/burning the board and it leaves both hands free.
I just replace the burnt/dead LEDs rather than them all, but the colour/brightness needs to be identical otherwise there are bright/dark spots and spots that are more yellow than white.

Those look like they they would work. I will check the polarity tonight.
I think the cool white is like what, 6000k or so? Anyway to know for sure what color my original LEDs are?

You may know if those are the same polarity/color as mine.

              Thanks,

These are the ones I got https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100P...311.0.0.V27x6w

Be sure that the polarity is correct - I have backlights the use the same footprint, but different polarity - and I have both polarities.

I use both a hot plate and an SMD hot air gun to remove/resolder my LEDs. Use the hot plate to get near reflow temp, then use the hot air gun to get you over. It is quick and accurate this way.

I know its probably a crap shoot, but if I find and replace the bad LED, is it common for others in the panel to fail rather quickly later? I just don't want to be doing this repair again a month from now.

Anyone else care to share their experience about how their repair lasted?

                  Thanks.

I modify power supply to limit current because I resale. Vizio overdrives the leds. Probably to make them fail after warranty

If done correctly (and turning down the brightness) I have had repairs that are still going strong 2+ years later.

Just ordered a set of those from ebay. Also watched a YT video on how to make a tip for my soldering iron to remove the LED.

If I was doing a bunch of these repairs, the hotplate would be the way to go.... but for just this one panel, not really worth the $40.

                            Hopefully this will work out.

Thanks for all the help. This site is great!!

                              Re: Vizio E470i-A0 LED Strips

Finally got into the TV to the LED strips. It appears that someone else has already been in here and TRIED to repair it . Two different repair methods were used here. One method, they left the strip intact, removed the bad LED and soldered in part of a donor strip.

Method 2, they cut the strip and removed the bad LED. Then attempted to solder in a donor strip.

When I tested the strip by putting 5v on the trace, the repair made with method 1 works, but the ones added with method 2 does not come on. If I put power directly to those LEDs they power up.

I think when they cut the trace, that messed up the flow of power going to the LED. I looked at it for a while, but could not figure out what I need to do to repair this. If I could see the copper trace, I could figure it out, but since I cant, I have just been poking around trying to find where the trace runs. I'm no repair technician, but I think this is a botched job by someone that "probably" didn't know what the heck they were doing. Maybe this could be used for an example of how NOT to replace LED backlights...hahaha

I "could" order a complete set of new LEDs, but I had rather try to repair the best I can and get it working.

                              Any help would be appreciated.

It is extremely hard to replace LED strips. You need training and experience to do it. If NOT you will damage your LCD TV's screen. (Except you are OK to throw your TV away if you made mistake)

You can scrape the coating and expose the copper. The solder job looks bad so maybe resolder.

an insulator should be added under each cut out section to prevent the replacements shorting to the chassis.
