Vizio M3D650SV, Won't Respond To a Remote Input

Finally starting to get things back in order here in the Florida Keys after hurricane irma (I refuse to dignify it with a capital name ).

Anyways, the house did not get not flooded but it was a damp environment for awhile. When we first got home several days ago, the Vizio would come on and work normally but after a few minutes the volume would automatically start dropping back to "0". I could force it up with the remote but it would then drop back again when I let up on the button.

Gradually got worse til I now have no control at all with either the regular Vizio remote or with 2 universal ones. No channel switch, volume or input-mode, nuttin. However I can control the major stuff with the little knob/wheel on the side of the case.

Haven't had time to open it up yet, but would appreciate some 'seat-of-the-pants' suggestions. Is everything on one main board ($$ !! ), or is there maybe a simple sub-board that might have gone bad?

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds as though you may still have moisture issues.

      Kinda my thought, too.

Without tearing it open (still too busy trying to make the house simply liveable, yet the kids are screaming that the tv doesn't work ), any ideas? Does it have one big ($$$) board or several smaller ones?

I'm asking because I'm trying to prioritize what to do when, and don't want to sacrifice valuable time on a dead duck if it's gonna be a huge mess in the long run.

Opening it up and cleaning the buttons and connectors may help.

open it up, power on then disconnect the button board. if it stops altering the volume, then it is most likely a switch within the button board, otherwise it will be a main issue.

make sure that the internals are as dry as possible, or else you will probably end up with more issues.

            +1

Perhaps to speed things up use a hair dryer (carefully) to dry out the circuit boards.

Whenever I have Vizio's that turn's up or down the volume by itself I clean the key controller first with Isopropyl Alcohol to clean it and displace the moisture or grime. If it still does it then I start looking at the IR sensor and once I change it out they usually work fine. Luckily it's rarely in the Main in our repairs. If it is the Main I highly recommend a rebuild by koshevo on ebay for this Main board. Sen does great work.

Did you ever get it working?
I believe my IR sensor went bad also.
                Ordered part.

820-02020 Super Weird Issue: Keyboard Input Character Map "Wrong"?
                  by ugamazing
So, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:

                  1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.

                  2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                  by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                  Assuming...

Vizio E241i-a1 - works, but OSD stuck and no buttons work
                  by bobbyskillz
Hello, experts! I have a weird issue I've never seen before. I know some of you have definitely seen this. I think some have seen in. I'd greatly appreciate any advice you can give me.

I bought a E241i-a1 to use as a monitor. It powers on, displays the image, and has sound. I just can't get the OSD to go away. The TV doesn't respond to any input from the remote contol or buttons except for the power button. Is this a firmware issue? I can't access settings to reset it. A quick search for the firmware has no results. I'm lost. Please throw some ideas at me.

                  Thanks for...

Vizio V555-G1 stuck on wallpaper; now stuck on V logo
                  by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it's getting stuck on the wallpaper. When I first power it on it goes to the V logo, then a black screen for about 15 seconds, then a Chromecast error for just a few seconds, and then finally to a wallpaper. It stays frozen on this wallpaper and does not respond to anything on the remote besides power on/off. Likewise the buttons on the tv do nothing either (besides power). I did the "reset" by holding the volume down and input buttons together for 10 seconds. It showed a message at the top of the screen saying it was Wiping Data and would restart soon. After...

                  Vizio E55-DO firmware corrupted?
                  by Lee M.
I was given this set and do not have the original remote. It will turn on with the power button and display "oobe V1.1.12 firmware V0" but that's all it will do. It does not respond to the input select button or volume button. I have a remote from the cable company and programmed it for Vizio and it will turn the set on and off but that's it, no response from any other buttons. The white standby led comes on bright at first and then dims but stays on while the set is on. I pulled the back off and looked for anything obvious like loose connectors, bad solder, bad caps and didn't find...
