• Re: Vizio M3D650SV, Won't Respond To a Remote Input

Kinda my thought, too.

Without tearing it open (still too busy trying to make the house simply liveable, yet the kids are screaming that the tv doesn't work ), any ideas? Does it have one big ($$$) board or several smaller ones?

I'm asking because I'm trying to prioritize what to do when, and don't want to sacrifice valuable time on a dead duck if it's gonna be a huge mess in the long run.

• Vizio M3D650SV, Won't Respond To a Remote Input

Finally starting to get things back in order here in the Florida Keys after hurricane irma (I refuse to dignify it with a capital name ).

Anyways, the house did not get not flooded but it was a damp environment for awhile. When we first got home several days ago, the Vizio would come on and work normally but after a few minutes the volume would automatically start dropping back to "0". I could force it up with the remote but it would then drop back again when I let up on the button.

Gradually got worse til I now have no control at all with either the...

• Samsung UN40J5200AFXZA

Status light continually blinks whether on/off has been pressed on remote. No picture, no backlight and no sound.

If I try to change source with the remote, the status light will do a rapid flicker for a couple seconds and then go back to the regular blink.

'ShopJimmy' doesn't show any parts for the tv.

Suggestions?

On Edit: Just realized, is that status light doing some kind of blink-code?

• Re: Philips HTS3410D Problem

I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to say THANK YOU. I have 2 of the subject HTIB's on the bench right now and just found this link to the service manual, compliments of 'budm'.

Again, THANKS!

Wish I could help. We've moved since my posts, and all of that extra stuff went in the trash

Sorry about that.

• Re: Samsung CCFL to LED conversion

Might be worth playing around with. Strips of LEDs from China can be had for stupid-cheap right now. A couple of those and a variable power-supply, and you're back in business.

I can't wait til someone gives me a tv or monitor with bad backlite. Gonna be fun!

• Re: Why Mess With LED Drivers? Get Strip Lights.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't think too far into the idea at the time.

However, I did happen to run across some stuff on the Inet (Instructibles, etc). One guy had an O'scope with failed backlite, and he stuck some LEDs in there. Another showed a pc monitor, but you could kinda see the bright bands. Not good for quality tv, but what the heck. Guess it might work if one wanted to put enough effort into it, or maybe just to say: "Hey! It works!".

I'm kinda like that. I built a sat-tv receiver &...

• Why Mess With LED Drivers? Get Strip Lights.

I've been replacing all of the fluorescent lights in my rv with little LED 12v strip lights, and a thought occurred (yeah, I know... an unusual thing for me).

Why do we work so hard to get the LED driver circuitry working again on tv's, when we could just replace the entire function (LED's, driver boards, etc) with some of the strips? I got a 5m roll of them (from China, of course) for less than $10.

I see a LOT of questions on here about getting the backlighting to work again on various tv's, so it's gotta be a big problem-area. When I was trying to find some replacement...

• Re: Sony HCD-EP313 Stereo. Optical Pickup Assy?

Thanks for the info, Chungalin. I got right down to where you'd suggested and carefully cleaned, but still no luck. Motors would spin up and all, and the display says "NO CD".

Rather than keep butting my head (), I just replaced the entire optical drive. WHOO! HOOO! It works.

Wonder how much I should charge the guy? Or even tell him I fixed it? I kinda like it, sounds nice for its size. He gave it to me as DOA, so it's not like he will miss it....

• Sony HCD-EP313 Stereo. Optical Pickup Assy?

This Mini-Stereo (2 channel, CD & Cassette) was handed off to me because they heard I like tinkering with things.

Anyways, I did say I'd take a look at it, and found the radio portion as well as aux input works fine. The person doesn't use cassettes anymore so i didn't even try that.

The problem is with the CD portion. When you put in a cd, the motor spins it up for several seconds and then comes to a stop and the display says "NO CD". Last portable Cd-player I had that did that went right in the dumpster, so I have no experience with troubleshooting....

Closing the loop here...
YES! It was a button! But not in the usual sense....

So I removed the push-button board again and played around with that, no joy. Next, was a replacement main board (I was sooo sure that was it ), but nope! Then squirted stuff into the tiny buttons and cycled them, thinking maybe a bad contact... not so.

However, I did get the tv to act 'normal' one time while poking the buttons. Ah-ha! Progress! Couldn't find anything obvious, so I eBayed a new button-board....

Dunno if you're having any luck finding new LEDs, but I have a full set that I harvested from that tv i was referencing in my earlier posts. Yours for the price of postage, if you want them.

• Re: Sony KDL-46XBR5 "RIP"

A follow-up...

OK, since the Sony belonged to my wife's boss, I figured I'd build up a bit of 'employment-insurance' and give them another flat-screen tv that I'd just repaired. I watched as they again 'threw' the new tv in the back of the mini-van, facedown and on top of a bunch of other stuff!

Jeez, it was like watching someone go out of their way to antagonize an animal.

I learned my lesson here!

All good ideas, thanks. Checking for stuck button was the first thing I tried when I got it a couple days ago (Oops, shoulda mentioned that before).

"But Wait! There's More!" ... as the tv announcer used to say. Tried to turn in on today, and got nothing. Up til now I was able to rule-out the PS, but this may begin to lead down diverging paths.

Bummer, didn't think to take any before-hand as I wasn't sure I was on the right track. And didn't take any afterwards because......
... well, because I forgot.

Just dug thru the trash to see if the old caps are still in there and I could photo them, but wife seems to be efficient at the oddest times.

Oh, and thanks for your help in the past with my other repairs, RB123

• Sony KDL-46XBR5 "RIP"

The TV was brought to me several months ago with bad ghosting and imaging on the upper-right side.

Turned out to be a TAB-bonding issue. Found the exact bad-spot, and glued/taped it together as best I could (BTW, Check out budm's great thread on repairing tab-bonds!). It held together on the bench running continuously for almost 2 weeks, even with me poking at the repair-area. Finally had enough confidence in it that I re-gifted to my wife's boss, with the caveat that it's 'as-is'. Her kids are big video-game players, so it was a good match.

Got it back 2 days...

• Another Olevia 242-t11 Happy Ending!

Dumpster-dove an Olevia 242-t11 the other day... my second in a couple months, oddly-enough. Deader'n the proverbial doorknob.

Opened it up and the PS caps on the secondary side looked a tad bulged, but not real bad. Figuring what-the-heck it's wortha try, I'll replace them.

Whoopie!! TV works great now!

Thanks to everyone and this site for guidance and suggestions !!

• Viewsonic N2750W With a Mind of Its Own

Without tearing into it yet, I'm guessing it's the Main Board but wanted to check with the 'Collective' before doing anything dumb (again).

Symptoms:
1) No response at all via front panel power-button or top-mount controls (volume/channel/menu/etc).
2) Will ONLY respond to remote (Power/source/etc).
3) Bring volume up (remote), and it drops it back down by itself.
4) When changing source, it will display the new source name for only fraction of a second.
5) Going to MENU, it will randomly choose a menu 'page' and then lock up.
6) When in...

• Re: Seiki SE50FY28 LED TV, no backlite

Thanks, vr69. I love your sense of optimism!

Sadly tho, I can see the crack in the screen when I look thru it from the rear.

However, I recently fixed a Sony XBR series LCD that DID have a bad tab-bond, and gave it to my wife's boss after I fixed it (a little brown-nosing never hurts ). Took forever til I found the exact spot that was bad.
In my case, failed area on the screen was horizontal, but I can see how a failed area could be vertical too.

To learn...

• Re: Seiki SE50FY28 LED TV, no backlite

Sorry for the delay. I was so frustrated with the thing, I didn't want to look at it again for awhile (a looooong while!).

Anyways, here's the requested photo. As you can see, it's in great shape on the left side but not so good on the right (well, duh). If I wiggle the screen just so, I can get colored lines within the white area on that side, which means the rest of the electronics/etc is working - except for the discontinuity at the crack.

I found the tv alongside the road, so i don't know its past history....
