Soniq E32W13D-AU 32" TV Wont Turn On

I have been asked to look at a SONIQ E32W13D-AU 32" TV. I could find no service manual or schematics for this or any SONIQ model.

    - It does not turn on, and does not seem to respond at all to pressing the Standby button on the side.
    - There is a red power light on the front that remains lit, does not flash, nor does it change color, even when pressing the Standby button on the side (or any other button for that matter).
    - I have never seen the backlight come on, or any sign of display.
    - The integrated DVDROM does a couple of seeks, it seems to be powered and operating normally. It accepts a disc but does not respond to the eject button on the side.

I was hoping to get some thoughts on what the fault might be. I have done the following:
    - Measured the voltages on the bottom power connector, which read as follows:
    ADJ = 0.06VDC 0.3VAC
    ON/OFF = 0.00VDC
    PS-ON = 5.02VDC
    5VS = 5.15VDC
    +5V = 5.13VDC
    +12V = 12.57VDC 0.3VAC
    - Measured the SOT223 regulators on the brain board, two read 3.3VDC and one reads 1.43VDC, its a 1117-ADJ
    - Static tested the the TO220 diodes at the backlight output after removing them from the board
    - Diode tested the other main Schottky diodes on the PSU
    - Removed the backlight connector and tried again, no change
    - Measured 52VDC (+ 0.3VAC) across the black 47uF 160V on the far right of the PSU, near the LED connector
    - Tried to shine a torch at the screen to see if its active without backlight, but no sign of life

Can anybody suggest where to look now?
Does anybody know what the pins labelled ADJ, ON-OFF, PS-ON are supposed to read, and what function they are?
Should I be reading more than 1.43VDC on the adjustable regulator? I could find no datasheet for the LQFP processor MSD6306PUM-XG

    Thanks for any advice.

    "ADJ (dim) = 0.06VDC 0.3VAC
    ON/OFF (BL-ON) = 0.00VDC:
The main board is not sending the Dimming control or Backlights ON control signal.

1.43VDC seems an odd voltage. What is voltage on each pin?
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Thanks a bunch to both budm and dskall, I really appreciate your comments.

budm, thanks for the explanation of the signal functions, that makes a lot of sense now.

dskall, I checked the voltage on the regulator again and it was fluctuating around between 1.30V and 1.45V. I decided to replace the regulator and BINGO it fires up immediately! Funny though it reads only 1.52V now. Maybe the processor is very sensitive to the voltage level, I dont know but in any case it works great.

THANKS VERY MUCH AGAIN, you guys are awesome.

For anybody else interested, the regulator is the one indicated in this picture, you can just see the pins poking from underneath the cable.

wow, a 32' soniq that has a repairable fault. i'm very jealous.

i have about 35 of these sitting here with the flickering screen fault. hate them so much!

good to see one fixed though.

Have you checked voltages on your t-con?

yeah, t-con voltages are good, need to get my hands on a scope and check the signal into t-con and to panel. have many others to look at first. i will get around to these one day.

Re: Soniq E32W13D-AU 32" TV Wont Turn On

                  Hi,

I'm having a similar issue with the same model, so I thought i'd resurrect this thread.

The TV(e32w13d-au) has been alternating between being stuck in standby and working normally. It's 3 years old and only started being faulty recently.

I opened it up today when it was stuck in standby. I measured the output voltage of the BM1117-adj regulator and got 0.81V. Power supply seemed to be fine.

Weirdly enough, after heating up that regulator with a hair dryer for a few minutes the output voltage pops up to 1.52V. Then it turns on just fine :S

So my questions for you guys with more experience is:

What causes it not to work when cold? Is the regulator faulty or something around it?

Would a LD1117SC-R be a suitable replacement for the BM1117-adj?
                  http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/low-dr...ators/6869372/
I'm confused because the website description says 1.3A rating, but the data sheet says max output current of 0.8A. The BM1117-adj has a max output current of 1A.

                  Thanks

If you look at the spec sheet:
Minimum Io is 800mA, Typical is 950mA, and maximum is 1300mA.
It will be fine to use for the repair.

                      Hi.

Interestingly, my daughters exact same model TV developed the same fault.
The image is there, however, the backlight is not on. I can shine a torch into the LCD and see the picture there very feintly, ie: no backlight LEDs on at all.

My regulator reads the same as yours - the ones either side supply 5V with 3.4V out and a few Ma on the other leg ; this one reads 5V supply side with 1.34V out and about 1200Ma on the other leg (if that makes sense)

I'll replace the SMD reg and see how we go. Seems to be very very common with these units.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but it has helped me a heap!
One set it didnt help me with was a 40" soniq. But I happen to have a second set that had a damaged lcd. Transplanting working board to the one with the flicker on boot (screen comes on and turns off imediately) didnt change anything. Long story short the CCFL were faulty causing the backlight shutdown. So perhaps try plugging in some known working CCFL's into those sets and see if they fire up.
Now if only there was a way to get them displaying HD channels without a set top box.
                        Thanks again

So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But...

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4520 from a couple of decades ago and I want to repair it solely for nostalgia.

It happens that when I turn it on after having been disconnected for a long time, it turns on without problems, it tells me that the BIOS has been reset and that it will load the factory settings, if I tell it to continue, the computer turns on and everything works fine.

The moment I turn it off and want to turn it back on a second time, or restart it and try to start it again, it no longer gives an image, and it no longer responds.

Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

I had a desktop form factor mini-server die on me a few weeks ago. Through my initial diagnostics, I was convinced it was the motherboard because when I shorted the Green wire on the ATX connecter, the multimeter gave me all the correct voltages on the various pins of the ATX connector and 5VSTB was also correct. To my surprise the replacement motherboard wouldn't turn on with the case power button either. I threw in another PSU and it turned on right away. This is an 80 Plus EVGA 430W PSU with PN:100-W1-0430. I pulled the cover off and don't see any immediately obvious blown caps or scorch...
