Take a look at the screen when you press menu button. See how it looks. Your 1st pic looks like there are horizontal lines all over, maybe just the pic. But I am thinking bad panel.
If menu looks good, I would say bad main, maybe tcon. Stay tuned.....better answers to come.

Thank you for the reply's. Is this a problem with just these 46" Samsung panels as the 40" don't seem to suffer the fate?

Sorry to be resurrecting an old thread... but I have the same model TV with the same problem as the second picture with the lady and all of the different colored vertical lines.

Was it determined that the panel was bad? or Was a t-con board possibly tried with a positive resolution to this?

The lines as well seem to come and go. With the picture looking fine at times. Here are a few sample pics

I have a Sony KDL-32" same problem and it was the T-Con Board which was goosed..
