    LG/Optica 7074c / 42" SmartTV

Hello BadCaps Community my friend got this TV through Buy As You View, about 2 weeks ago the bottom half of the screen started going dark, i have reset it and checked energy saving and brightness settings but the problem still persists, when i turn the TV on it is fine but after 3-4 seconds the shadow appears. I have opened the set up and checked all the boards and reseated every cable. i suspect this is a panel issue. Any help would be appreciated.

He has had the tv just over 18 months and his warranty has expired.

Thanks Budm, when taking the readings the 2 coils on the inverter board were pretty hot, not sure if that is normal.

The bottom LED's are failing but the top ones are still working, i took the screen apart and 1 of the strips is dying but is this defective LED's or something else?

The reason that most of the TV with LED backlights have failed LEDs is due to the LEDs are being driven too hard close to or at the maximum spec with no regard to the ambient temperature so they failed. When you are done fixing the TV you should turn down the backlights level to as low as you can to extend the life of the LEDs.
I am surprised that the protection circuit did not kick in due to bad LEDs, may be they just do not care.

This is the Notes from LG LED spec:
Operating the LED beyond the listed maximum ratings may affect device reliability and cause permanent damage.
These or any other conditions beyond those indicated under recommended operating conditions are not implied.
The exposure to the absolute maximum rated conditions may affect device reliability.

Example of bad design in LG:

I thought the TV had 2 banks of LED's but its only 1 strip with 60 LED's, they all light up from cold then most of them die and a few stay lit. as u can see in the picture 8 are lit then 1 is dead then the 10th 1 lit.

I have tested each individual LED with a battery and they all seem to work fine.

                        Thanks for your help

It looks like LG are not renowned for there backlights :o

Could a problem with the inverter cause these symptoms or would it be worth buying a new LED strip and hoping for the best?

Each bank has three set of LED string, that why you have VR1~VR6.

from yours photos i can say the LED are less than 60 on one strips as there are 3 groups of LEDs on each strip please check again, this LEd edge one 6 Volts, its crazy to be if one groups will be 20 LEDs

No but i think this was TV on finance so they could disable the TV remotely, it can be flashed to android if you know how, it still works without the sd card.

Hi everyone, over the past few months i have taken a deep dive into motherboard diagnostics and I love the challenge. Currently im trying to learn all about the signals that travel around the motherboard, such as frequencies, enable signals High and Low logic states etc. And i have been learning to read and using the Schematics for this board that i requested here on Badcaps forum, from a few months ago, this is such a great place for these.

I’ve been working on a GA-970A-DS3 (rev. 1.0) that does not post. This motherboard has been my main learning board. I would like share...

Macbook A2289 - backlight problems - have checked a lot already - out of ideas
                                          by survivalbloke
This is A2289, board 820-01987-A. It came in with the screen not working. We could not see any image on the screen, so we ruled out a backlight issue and instead replaced the panel. The display now comes up, but no backlight.

I didn't see any signs of liquid damage, but there was some odd looking spots around U8400. F8400 has voltage on either side of it, and I have 5v present on R8444 and R8445. I did not have 3.2v at R8442 so I figured U8400 was bad, and I replaced it. After replacement, a brief probe to R8442 showed 3.2v so I assumed I had fixed the device. After reassembly however,...

Smart Tech LE-4048SA stuck at SMARTTV logo: problem solved.
                                          by letmealone
I had this tv set, stuck at the 'SMARTTV' screen with coloured logo. Impossible to find the original Smart Tech firmware, so i searched in kazmielec.tech some firmware compatible with the tv-set hardware (CV338H-T42 card and Y400HJ6.PE1 screen). The firmware i tried was wrong and it bricked the TV, just showing a black screen and not entering stand by anymore. I supposed it needed special hardware to reflash the NAND, but i was wrong, it just needed a working compatible firmware. Still in the kazmielek page i tried ' CV338H-T42_1920x1080_Telefunken TF-LED43S81T2' and it finally worked. I wrote...

MAG274QRF-QD 27" gaming monitor half backlight shadow
                                          by kalemaroni
A customer called me up and said that half the screen was like a shadow - presumably the backlight has partially gone. I've never done a repair like this on a monitor, only circuit board based repair on Macbooks etc - is it something that's doable or generally not?

Hearty greetings to everyone, trust you all are doing excellently well.

Please, I have the above problem, the laptop turned on after the switch was activated but it will turns off in less than 2 seconds.

The power stables in very rare case. Once it was stabled, everything works fine.

Once the power switched is pressed, 5V and 3V were present.

                                          The things i have done:

                                          1. I have check for shorts on the board, but nothing. The board is short free

                                          2. Not a power switch problem, it behaves the same without the switch ...
