MAG274QRF-QD 27" gaming monitor half backlight shadow
A customer called me up and said that half the screen was like a shadow - presumably the backlight has partially gone. I've never done a repair like this on a monitor, only circuit board based repair on Macbooks etc - is it something that's doable or generally not?

So I fixed this in the end and thank you very much mon2 for staying with me on this. I greatly appreciate it.
It was a shorted cap as shown in the picture below. I replaced it from another board which was also not turning on so I will be troubleshooting that one too at some point. I have a couple of questions:
1) Is there any way to find out what rating etc this capacitor is? I'm assuming the neighbouring ones are going to be the same.
2) This seems to be a GPU or CPU cap. How would it have shown as a full short on the charging circuitry? I thought it would...

This is with the black probe on ground. If I put the red probe on ground the 5M changes to 1.2M1 Photo

Sorry, when I wrote mill I meant million, so everywhere that says mill means mega. Which is the drain and which is the source?

I did replace both of those at the same time before posting this. On the picture I drew on the right side of the mosfet on the right (farthest from the DCIN) is shorted on all pins that side.

54k ohms, however, I found a short on pin 1 ACN so checking the cause of that now.

Opinions on particular soldering iron tip maintenance product
Has anybody tested this product? Posting this question on a Facebook tech group I'm in got a few responses like "that kind of thing corrodes the tips" and "just using normal solder paste is much better" so I'm not looking for generic responses like that, but rather, does anybody know for certain whether this exact product is good or bad for soldering iron tips?

Thanks, found the BQ24780S chip. I had actually looked for it before but missed it because it had a sheen of tape residue on it so I thought it was an unusual laptop with a different type of charging circuitry that I hadn't come across before, hence me posting the whole board back and front.Last edited by kalemaroni; 04-12-2024, 03:47 AM.

Asus UX582L no power
I have 20v coming in but it stops after the first mosfet and I can't find any voltage anywhere on the board. I replaced both the mosfets and it made no difference. Anyone have any pointers as to where to go next? Many thanks in advance...

Re: Synology DS415+ chip programming
Thanks, really great info, appreciate it very much.
So am I correct in thinking that I would need to buy one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295742928752
and then buy another DS415+ unit that has this chip on, remove the chip, solder it onto the Max II programmer I just linked and then I could read it (if that protection bit isn't set) using the Intel Quartus software, then dump it back onto a new chip via the Max II programmer?Re: Synology DS415+ chip programming
