Have been working on this set off and on for about 2 months. After it came in stuck on standby I decided to immediately jump the power supply bypassing the mainboard. All voltages checked are spot on. However I noticed that the backlights would not turn on and if you were lucky you might get a sputter from one or more of the bulbs. Just to be sure I ordered more inverters from China as the originals were out of the 3 percent tolerance. Got the inverters and put them in finding 2 bad bulbs in the lower quadrant of the screen. I found this by using Bud's Cfl method. Have progressed to this point but cannot get the backlights to stay on even with all new cfl bulbs soldered to the inverters. Even tried to simulate the dim control with an AA battery to no avail. I will worry about the mainboard signals after I can get the backlights to stay on. Will definitely need some help on this. Thanks.

Re: Element Elchw321 will not turn on
maybe the inverter shuts down because of too much current being drawn (bad CCFLs), or it thinks there is too much current being drawn from the inverter?
Maybe bypass the protection circuit on the inverter?Comment

Re: Element Elchw321 will not turn on
Did you figure it out?
I'm working on the same board which also has no backlight.
Identified and replaced one dead FETs (V803 on schematic) driving the Backlight transformer but still nothing. The replacement has two times less RDS on though, not sure if it may be a problem
Never worked with CFL inverter before. Any help or links to troubleshooting methods appreciated.
The schematic is attached.Last edited by zape; 03-03-2019, 10:28 AM.Comment

Re: Element Elchw321 will not turn on
Check the BLon signal from the main board to the PSU, maybe it is missing. If it is missing it MAY be an EEPROM problem.
Try forcing the PSU and the back lights on, with the main board unhooked. You need two 1k ohm resistors. Take one resistor and jump STBY to PSon. Take the other resistor and jump STBY to BLon. Plug the set in and the PSU should be on and the back lights on.

Re: Element Elchw321 will not turn on
Was it showing D-S short in circuit or out of circuit? The reason I ask is that is unlikely the fet was shorted and the main fuse did not blow also, If you charged the gate with your meter during testing it would have turned the fet ON, so it would have tested short between D-S.Last edited by R_J; 03-03-2019, 12:25 PM.Comment

Re: Element Elchw321 will not turn on
Both in circuit and out. I'm aware of the FET charging.
Some strange things happened now. I was about to check the SW ON signal and it turned on and backlight works now.
No idea why it did not work the first time.
Could be some sort of intermittent problem still present.Comment

Let me tell you a little bit about what happened to my laptop (MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX model: MS-16R6) that “maybe” you know how to solve this problem.
So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But... -
by robante15Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4520 from a couple of decades ago and I want to repair it solely for nostalgia.
It happens that when I turn it on after having been disconnected for a long time, it turns on without problems, it tells me that the BIOS has been reset and that it will load the factory settings, if I tell it to continue, the computer turns on and everything works fine.
The moment I turn it off and want to turn it back on a second time, or restart it and try to start it again, it no longer gives an image, and it no longer responds.
If I remove the... -
by masoksianHi everyone,
I am dealing with the problem of turning on and off my Dell e7470 notebook.
The battery charge light is solid white, I press the button, the power indicator and the light on the button are solid for 1-2 seconds and immediately turn off.
The system does not turn on, there is no post.
I removed the RAMs and changed them, changed the battery, RTC battery, AC adapter, removed them and waited, tried again, it does not turn on.
The problem continues in the same way.
I tried to turn on the Fn key, nothing came to the screen.... -
