repaired TV sales have you noticed a very large decline

    Hi all

Has anyone else noticed a massive slow down in sales of repaired sets ?

I my self have been very quiet since the bank holiday weekend, was wondering if its area specific or just down to the cost of a new vestel set at ASDA ?

nobody has any spare money anymore - that's the underlying problem.

Yes a little noledud. And the lack of manners of some people. Gone are people being polite in text messages, now half of them are either a low price or simply say "what's your last price"

It's also that Craigslist, which most people use to list their TVs for sale, has become so infected with fake and fraudulent ads that it is difficult to wade through them.

          For instance this ad:
          Excellent condition:Samsung 75" led Smart TV - $205
which is complete with pictures, is obviously a fake ad.

Here's the response when you respond:

          Hello XXX,

Someone already purchased this from me sorry, but I can tell you where I got it from.

I got 4 of these from hxxp://xxxx.com and I decided to resell them for some extra money. You can buy from this website at very cheap.

The trick is just put in a bid under 5 seconds. So the other bidders don't have the chance to submit their counter bids. That's what I did and it's really easy to win.

          All the best,
          Katherine
(I xxx'ed out the URL - I'm not going to give these parasites any additional exposure).

With most of the CL ads fake, a potential buyer will just think that there are no legitimate used sets for sale.

Re: repaired TV sales have you noticed a very large decline

The price of LCD sets has fallen so much over the last few years (and unfortunately also the quality), that most people prefer to ditch their set than pay the cost of repair.
I picked one up today that the person said, "It went bang so I went out and bought another one". He didn't even consider a repair.

I have a rule now, Im only buying faulty Led Tv's and maybe high end Lcds or Plasmas. Older ones dont sell at all so Im no longer buying them any more.

When selling, people appear to want the minumum spec of Full HD, HDMI's and USB. Anything less and there's virtually no interest around here.

Re: repaired TV sales have you noticed a very large decline

For sure I have noticed, I have not had a TV to sell in a few months, but had 3 recently. Very little activity from ads on Craigslist compared to just a few months ago.

Theb biggest problem is price now, new TVs have become so cheap..

I have a 40" Samsung LCD from 2010 for sale, asking $160, have gotten no inquires in a week or so. Started at $175.00. Some people are selling these for around $100 now.

When you think about it, although these are nice 1080p sets that were once in demand, they are not smart TVs, relatively small, and not 4K or 3D.

I am now only going to buy 46" and above (preferably bigger) LEDs or most recent newer plasmas.

Same Every Year at this time....

Plans/payment for holidays, summer BBQ's, longer evenings, people out and about instead of shivering in front of tellys!....

No different to Every year here in UK-- Been same for the last 30 odd years!

This is why the likes of Argos, Asda, et-al do cheapo specials using the likes of world-cup or other sporting events to publicise/promote TV sales--They aint selling for them either, or you can bet--there would be NO special cheapo crappola vestel shite for sale!

Gotta wait till September before things really get going again.

that's because nobody is watching shit tv on them.
they are all hooked up to game consoles, sat receivers and streaming boxes.

i have not seen a tv with anything in it's antenna socket for several years now.
the few people who do watch that crap tend to use a freesat box.

Every set I that comes in and I fix, is ALWAYS switched to HDMI.--Thats what its last owner was using it on.

Ive not seen one switched on to DTV for a very long time. Often, DTV isnt even tuned in at all, and never ever has been!

I don't bother renovating any set that Doesn't have at least one HDMI socket And DTV.

needless to say there's a lot of watchers probably all laughing waiting to see if it sells.

I don't think that model cost that much new

Thanks for all the replies very interesting

Im sure we all love the "last price" "best price" messages but even they have dropped off

I do agree with Alastair E that it does drop due to the time of the year but this year seems to be particularly bad

I only use gumtree at the moment but im going to try using facebook and ebay

obviously the other option is lowering asking price but the sellers of broken sets are not doing the same but yet they are still selling !

At least its not just me effected its just a shame that this will now have a knock on effect to the amount heading to landfill.

Just out of curiosity could some provide examples of prices achieved ? for instance i had a flurry of PS42Q96HDS and similar models come in recently and Iv managed to sell 4 recently for around the £100 mark

So by the time you factor in petrol parts and labor going any lower makes it not worth it as in a lot of cases sellers still want upto £60 for broken ones !

Id hate to see them go to the tip cause is still think they have a cracking picture when working correctly.

As a hobby perhaps you would pay that and hope to make a small return on a successful repair, but as a business the finances are completely different.
