I think that is the key, the LG circuit was not well designed to detect that over current condition to make it go into shutdown mode.

Out of curiosity, who was the panel manufacturer? The LG I have was made in China by Cheesung Electronics Co., LTD. The TV itself was "assembled in Mexico" (Factory ID: GX).

Spec sheet of the LCD panel. 400mA IF.
Looking at some Data sheet for the LG Innotek LEDs, they all have this comment "The exposure to the absolute maximum rated conditions may affect device reliability."

They all seem to be going just after a year or so tbh. I had one that died after 6 months.

As long as they last the year out that is all they need to do , the ones that dont will get replaced, but only if you have filled in and posted off the warranty card(most are not ) but the replacement will only have warranty for the time remaining from the time of sale, so if your first set fails at seven months your replacement will only have the five months of warranty that is left .

most extended warranty deals that are offered in store are insurance cover and only cover you when your manufacture warranty runs out,and come with lots of small print to stop you claiming ?

Hey guys, my neighbor drop off the same model LG 47LN4790. With the same problem, power on has sound, but no back light. I just open up the LCD screen and found the same camp fire like Budm

I'm going to abort this repair and give it back to the customer, it just doesn't seen safe to repair

Take it all apart, clean the chassis, paint it, and replace the burned LED strip with another strip, or section of strip, use Kapton tape to insulate.

Ohh dear, some serious issues with this model then. Thats not good at all. Just replace the strip and clean off any soot that will get it back up and going.

I was going to try to save the one that burnt out but the diffuser was badly damaged with black burnt marks and warp.

All this shit in landfill isn't good for the planet, and this kind of failure is going to have most sets end up in landfill.

Its a shame how its all gone, back in 2006 a cheap Pos Vestel would last 6-10 years, some still going with no service history. Now they last 18 months and thats for all brands pretty much. Led shite !
