Re: VIZIO VX32L power supply running VX37L television
Hottest part, the 30H100, now runs only 134F, quite a difference after adding the thermal compound to the heat sink plates!...

Re: VIZIO VX32L power supply running VX37L television
(On the broken 37inch supply) I am only getting 170V on the Main Cap after the PFC. The PS does not turn on, so the PFC doesn't rise. Even though I am using the 32 inch supply, I am still trying to repair the 37 inch psu. Something in the 24/12v section may be bad, but I haven't found it yet.

Re: VIZIO VX32L power supply running VX37L television
Thanks, all the caps check good, I will keep checking.
I feel silly for starting the thread, without better comparing the two units first. For some reason, the 32 inch power supply uses a higher rated mosfet, diode, larger transformer, slightly more heatsinking, and more caps? WTF? This makes it obvious that the 32 inch is actually the better supply. Both are rated same input draw from the wall as well.
WTF, why would Visio use a better PSU in the 32 inch? Maybe they were cutting costs in later, lesser...

Re: VIZIO VX32L power supply running VX37L television
So far the heatsinks are about 100-110F but the MBR30H100CT for the 24V rail (backlight) is running 146F so it seems to be warm, but not running too hot.
The output heatsink on the 37 inch PSU is smaller, go figure, so it seems the 32 inch PSU will run this TV?
Any input? I'm about to put this set back together and make adaptor mounts for the PSU to bolt in.

VIZIO VX32L power supply running VX37L television
VX37L is the tv I am repairing
VX32L is the PARTS TV
I was having trouble with 5V standby keeping voltage on the VX37L with the mainboard connected, so I suspected mainboard was pulling down the 5V rail. Tried Mainboard from VX32L, same symptom, so not the mainboard. Without the Mainboard plugged in, I get full 5V standby voltage.
I connected the VX32L power supply (PSU) inside the VX37L TV, and it runs fine. I get image on screen, and backlights, and everything. I am heat-testing the power supply to see if it is capable of running the larger set.

Re: LG 47LN5790 badly burnt out LEDs
Take it all apart, clean the chassis, paint it, and replace the burned LED strip with another strip, or section of strip, use Kapton tape to insulate.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ800U power supply light 2 blinks
Thanks folks!
I just repaired one of these TV sets with the same 1uf failed MLCC.
I replaced both caps with a 63V, 1uf Mylar Capacitor. It's not a surface mount part, but I just soldered the legs of the Mylar cap to the SMD pads for the old cap.
Works great. I chose that kind of cap because of they usually have very high reliability and performance.
Measured better than my 1uf electrolytic caps.
I will now be on the lookout for these Television...

Re: DYNEX 40" Model DX-L40-10A/4832 Will not power on.
ITS GOOD!!!
The TV is fixed. Reflowing those solder joints was the fix, and I also resoldered ALL the connector pins. I reflowed with heatgun and generous Kingbo flux on it, the transistor that controls the PW-ON, but while I was in there, I upgraded the caps for the 16V 5V standby and 24V output, and the TV comes on a bit quicker, so that was also needed. All the old caps are still good, but they were ~10% below value, I changed them anyway.Last edited by ZnsaneRyder; 04-09-2016, 09:54 AM.

Re: DYNEX 40" Model DX-L40-10A/4832 Will not power on.
I was suspicious of the eeprom at first..........I will keep you posted, but I just got the TV to come on, after taking measurement of the 0V showing on the PW-ON wire, I wiggled the boards, and it jumped to 4V and it powered on!
I just resoldered and fluxed (kingbo) all the pins on the power and main boards (couldn't see broken solder joints) I also reflowed and fluxed the little SMT transistor and resistor that connects to the PW-ON on the mainboard.
I will let you know...

Re: ILO PDP4210ea1 unstable Buffer Voltage from Ysus
I just compared it to another 50" LG Z-Sus board, and the parallel rows of MLCC caps are shorted too.........
I wonder if those are really SMD inductors I have mistaken for caps......
They are labeled with a "B" prefix like B10, B11, etc.
I am usually good with Plasma TV, but this is a real stumper. I am probably frustrated out of desperation. I'm starting to wonder if the screen is bad again...........
Regardless, I am still learning, and will keep learning. I...Last edited by ZnsaneRyder; 04-06-2016, 01:28 PM.

Re: ILO PDP4210ea1 unstable Buffer Voltage from Ysus
I measured once I removed them, no more short!
Some of the SMD MLCC caps varied in color from light grey to almost black, obvious signs of heat damage, the picture isn't clear enough to see the difference in color, sorry.
I have a feeling the IPM is blown open and that is why I don't detect a short in that chip. Failed I just find it weird that it didn't shut the TV off with the shorted caps in place. It could be possible that I used too much capacitance, and the IPM is still good, I am taking a shot...

Re: Capacitor bank
I'm trying to help you, but you may need to study how capacitors work, and realize they will not store as much as you may think. Capacitors store SHORT bursts of energy.
A LARGE 1FARAD (1,000,000uf) in parallel with a car battery will help the starter start quicker, but it WILL NOT WORK BY ITSELF.
USE A BATTERY to check your starter.

Re: Unofficial 85C vs 105C capacitors thread
I don't think the 105C are rebadged 85C, I still believe they use the bad chemicals cloned numerously in the 105C cap plague.
I have seen OLD 20 year old 85C caps keep their ESR and Microfarads closer to their proper spec, while 2-5 yr old china caps losing their spec when measured!

Re: ILO PDP4210ea1 unstable Buffer Voltage from Ysus
Here is a photo of the failed rows of MLCC capacitors...............
There are actually 20 of these caps (10 per output) but I had to crop the pic to fit the forum size using a photo editing program in Linux I am still getting used to.
Sorry about part of the pic being cut off...Last edited by ZnsaneRyder; 04-05-2016, 03:24 PM.

Re: ILO PDP4210ea1 unstable Buffer Voltage from Ysus
I just removed the output inductor coils to ensure the IPM isn't shorted!
The capacitors are shorted for sure!
Does anyone know the value of the capacitance of these MLCC caps? I want to replace them with POLY caps of the same rating. I have a BUNCH of 3.3uf and 1uf poly HV caps from plasma TV that should work. If not, I'll just replace them with like parts.
