There is the chance, but it is unlikely.

probably a duff board you have been sold..notably the as15f ic..if this gets hot rather quickly, then there's the fault.

There are guides all over this forum - you just need to locate the gamma points (VG#, GAMA#, etc.) and test them. Report the readings you get.

tom I see vgma1-vgma22 I need to test all these? and how can I find out on my own for future reference on the readings? I will I know if there good or not? basically im asking what all do I need to know how to test a tcon?

Re: samsung 40 in lcd can i ruin panel???

Basic principle with gamma voltage curves is "monotonicity". The voltages should go either up or down, but not both. i.e. not up, down then up again, that is a fail. Almost all bad ICs fail this test.

They also should range from 0 to about 15V, sometimes a little lower or higher, but no lower than 14V or higher than 18V. Some bad ICs will get have half the voltages low, other half good. That means the IC is bad and needs to be replaced.

More complicated test is symmetry. The voltages should mirror themselves around the centre point of half the highest voltage. i.e. if the highest voltage is 15V, then you should be able to draw a virtual mirror around 7.5V and the voltages will be in the same "curve". Excel helps here!

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
                    by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Samsung UN65TU8000 - Panel Issue [ hole in ribbon cable ]
                    by NWArkGuy
Well, I will be the first to admit that I screwed up...

In attempting to replace the backlight in a UN65TU8000, I made a hole through one of the ribbon cables between the board that runs along the bottom of the back of the TV and the panel. This lead to a between a 1/4 to 1/2 inch vertical stripe running the full height of the image.

I don't have the experience; personally, to solder a bridging wire for the paths that were cut. So, I have been on the hunt for other Samsung TV's of similar size.

I have 2 that I have found and have in my possession. ...

Samsung UN50TU8000 - Dead Panel Forensic Questions
                    by KYBOSH
I came across a 50inch TU8000 that wouldnt start up properly (blinking stand-by light, backlights would cycle on and off).

When i opened it up and removed the power to the mainboard the backlights powered up and everything looked uniform.
When reconnected the mainboard but disconnected the flex cable to the panel i heard the TV startup with the intro sound.

Later I checked for shorts on the panel PCB boards but could not find anything.
When I took a look with the FLIR i noticed the 2 resistors...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
                    by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...
