Vizio XVT553SV Powers on and has sound but no picture

    Hey everyone,

I am working on a Vizio XVT553SV 55" LED tv and not sure what else to check.

When I received the set it would power on with backlight and sound but would not display any picture.

    Voltages to the mainboard:
    Fuse
    F1-12.14 vdc
    F3-5.07 vdc
    F8-18.34 vdc

    Tcon:
    TF1-12.03 vdc
    F4-5.12 vdc

After reading many posts about these and mainboard issues that they have I purchased a replacement mainboard from a "refurbished tv broke in transit" on ebay.

After swapping the mainboard out I have the exact same symptoms as above.

Does this possibly sound like a bad Tcon or panel? or another defective mainboard.

Any help would be great on anything else to check.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

I can't say for sure but it could be a bad T-Con board, I suggest checking all connectors/cables at the T-con board to ensure the ribbon cables are fully seated.

Re: Vizio XVT553SV Powers on and has sound but no picture

      Thanks for the reply MisterD.

I reseated the ribbons and connectors with no change.

I had the set on for a couple of hours (with no change to the picture) and noticed the large black heatsink was cool to the touch (room temperature) I would have assumed it would be a little warm?

The heatsink is held on with 4 spring loaded clips so I decided to take it off and have a peek underneath.

It appears that the gpu underneath is simmilar to a laptop gpu. I have had a few laptops that have had the gpu fail from the lead free solder joints breaking under the gpu.

I am thinking of trying a reflow (heatgun) and see if anything changes.

      Any thoughts before I try?

Did you successfully reflowed a gpu from a laptop before? That chip looks alot like the Ati chips in laptops but i don't know if its soldered the same way.

I have been able to get a couple laptops working with a reflow but have only lasted a couple moths before failing again. A full reball of the gpu is recommended.

But if this would at least show me that it would work I would know that everything else is good before ordering a replacement Tcon.

After looking at the T-con a little closer I noticed one side of the gpu was pulled up and the board was a little warped in that area. I decided to not even try a reflow and just ordered a replacement board.

I will update when the replacement board arrives.

                Wanted to update this.

I received the replacement T-con and the TV works perfect now.

                Thanks for everyone's help.

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
                        by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                        Assuming...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                        by TR103
                        Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                        - sound and backlight, but no picture
                        - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                        - it keeps rebooting
                        - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                        - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                        by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                        by Ierwin
                        Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...
