    Dynex DX-LCD37-09

    Having some trouble with my LCD. While watching tv it shut down. I kept turning it on but would shut off. It still turns on and the screen lights up but there is some arcing on wires inside and a burnt plug.

    Anything I should start to test?

    In short, the arcing is the reason for the shutdown. The carbon tracing (from the burnt places) will provide a path for high voltage to flow or leak easily. You need to clean or replace all burnt components.

      But then my 2nd question would be... Why would that plug burn up? I should be able to solder the wires direct to the board, Correct?

        "Why would that plug burn up?" poor connection with contact resistance so you get arcing and heat. You can solder the wire directly to the pads but the main key will be that you must remove all the carbonized section of that board otherwise it will conduct and cause arcing, the voltage on those connectors can be as high as 2500V.

            Results...

            I pulled the plug off. Rounded off the burnt spot and soldered the wires on the board.
            Plugged the set in and it still had the arcing. But I ended cleaning the wires off. Actually washing the wire with a paper towel. It felt like something was on the wires. Doing that drastically cut the arcing.

            Tv has been on for over an hour now..

              You should have no arcing at all, if you do, that means you still have insulation break down by the high voltage.

                I always insulate the wires because they ground to the frame of the TV. If you do it in the dark you can see it and sometimes the wires will glow, NOT good! So I insulate the wires and if 1 wire is doing it then you best insulate all the wires. If the wires are too close to each other or any metal they will spark and arch like a spark plug.
