Re: Philips 40PFL3505D/F7 Blows fuse when plugged in

When you use the lamp and try to power up the TV, if the TV uses 200W then using 200W lamp will not be enough, it is like you have 200W lamps in series so each lamp will only get half the Voltage to run.
When I test the power supply board, I will test the board by itself first since the only circuit will draw the power will be the standby power supply, if the lamp lights up brightly and stays bright then I know I still have bad circuits some where, for example with shorted MOSFET for the PFC, that shorts will be there without turning on the PFC circuit.
I then force on the power supply while monitoring the Voltage on the main cap to see if I see the boosted Voltage or not, If do see the boosted Voltage and other Voltages that are turned on by the PS-ON the more likely the power supply is OK.
So using 200W is not going to be enough to run the TV since the TV consumes 200W of power.

Re: Philips 40PFL3505D/F7 Blows fuse when plugged in

I have a Bad 1M200Z diode on my board. This is the only part I can find bad that may be causing the fuse to blow. So I found the equivalent to be 1N4741A or NTE5105A. It seems these are 1 amp. I want to install an equivalent that will not blow as easy.

It is just after the rectifier diodes so it must be for power spikes. I have some P6KE220CA Bidirectional Diodes 600W 220v TVS. I wonder if I add one of these will it help or hurt?

Basically I want to upgrade the circuit, make it better.

Re: Philips 40PFL3505D/F7 Blows fuse when plugged in

I figured it would be safe if I powered on the TV without the diode so I replaced the fuse and it didn't blow a fuse. TV turned on right away and big crack right in the center.

I am still going to fix the power board.

And that diode is at location D1208 if anyone is curios.

The problem with modification is that you can make the failure even more traumatic should the fault condition repeat. So unless it's a manufacturers update I'd be a little wary.
If you are selling the set or it's a paid for repair I would not want it going pear shape and come back at me.
          Just my five-pence worth.

The 1N4741A as you have found is a substitute device for it.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I went and ordered the 1N4741A diode.

Ah, problem here. The 1N4741A diode was not the right diode. I put it in and it blew. So I think I figured out why. The diode is suppose to be 190V or 200V and this diode is 11V. I don't think that is going to work.

I see in the previous listing someone said Z4KE200A should be used. Is this correct? Looks good to me. It works between 190V to 210V

1M200Z is 200V ZENER DIODE, so where does the 11V spec come from, 1N4741? How did the 1N4741 (11V) come about to be the replacement for the 1M200Z?

How is the original diode being used? As a snubber?

Look at this eBay search link. All the listings say 11V.

                  http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...4741A&_sacat=0

I bought mine off eBay. I also searched online and they all say 11V everywhere I look.

I guess it was my mistake and dick_Barton said it was right. It is not right. Not even close.

The Z4KE200A sounds better than the 1M200Z, what do you think?

                        The Z4KE200 will be fine.

OK, I will order the Z4KE200A

I can't seem to find any 1M200Z. That Mouser page says you have to order 5,000 pieces. I can order 100 Z4KE200A for about $26.00 from Mouser.

So they are ordered. I just retested the board and everything else seems to be OK. Now I just have to wait for them to be delivered. Yesterday was my birthday, as you can tell by my user name.
