I have a vizio E470VL that a customer brought in that is dead. no response from the power button, only the vizio logo goes to orange when plugged in. 5v standby is only voltage on power supply connector. all fuses are good. The HDMI ic on the mainboard is blistering hot to touch. Question, would removing the HDMI ic allow the tv to turn on, and would an over-heated HDMI ic keep a tv from operating?

Re: vizio E470VL unusual question
The HDMI IC may be locking up the processor so it will not allow the processor to function, that is the only thing I can think of. You can try removing the IC, unless we understand exactly how HDMI IC communicate with the processor, we cannot tell if removing the IC will allow the board to work again or not.Last edited by budm; 07-18-2014, 02:01 PM.Never stop learning

Re: vizio E470VL unusual question
I will say yes a burn HDMI chip can cause a TV not to power on.
I pick up two Vizio last week the seller claim that both TV's wouldn't power on after a bad power outage surge.
the first TV Vizio E370VL, got it home and remove the back of the case to find no burn chips or blown fuses. plug the power cord in and I got a orange light on the front "Vizio logo" press the power button and nothing. I was leaning toward the EPPROM being bad but I remember what the seller said. So I touch the main CPU chip and then the HDMI chip. the main cpu chip was cold but the HDMI chip was warm to the touch with no signal being inputted. I check the HDMI chip under magnification and saw a little black ball near the corner of the chip.
So I started to remove the HDMI chip with a hot air gun and that when I can smell that "burn out smell"
after the chip removal the TV power up fine now.Comment

Re: vizio E470VL unusual question
I am going to remove the HDMI IC and see what happens. Like you, with no input the IC is too hot to touch. After removing if the TV works or the symptoms change at all I will order a replacement HDMI IC and install it. Mouser has them for $4.90 plus shipping of about $5Comment

Re: vizio E470VL unusual question
His is a P13HDMI 301ZLE which is a square IC. Mine is a P13HDMI 245AZLE which is a rectangle IC. I've looked at the data sheet on these and it does appear to have base-tab, so I will be using a hot air gun to remove it.Comment

Re: vizio E470VL unusual question
no, the traces are damage and the thermal pad for the IC chip is destroy.This board can't be repaired using the HDMI portsComment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by Bugman1400EDITED: I thought my Vizio E470VL has +5VSB and no 12v on the PS board, but after plugging the cable back in and testing the pins on the Main board I realized that I do have 12V. I assume the 12V is turned on when the ON/OFF switch is pressed. The Vizio light in front does go from Standby Orange to White when ON. But, I still have no picture or sound. Test values of PS board are below.
+5VSB= +5.09
12V= +12.18
PS_ON= +2.25
I_ON/OFF= +3.27
LAMP= +3.18
DIM= +2.97
Any more testing I can do on Main board or is it just a replacement?... -

by dholleyWould someone please help troubleshoot a Vizio 47" TV Switch Mode Power Supply with 5 volt output fluctuating voltage. The voltage fluctuates at 5 the volt output and at the Pulse Switch Modulating IC at VCC. I have the following notes:
1. The 3 main filter caps all have approximately 167 volts steady
2. I have replaced 4 mosfets next to what I think is called the inventor transformer (big black transformer) pictures attached
3. I have replaced Fuse F102 with an equivalent
4. I have check all diodes and caps and they seem to be ok
5. I replaced the 431... -

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.
Where is the short?
Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.
Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but... - Loading...
