Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
Replacement t-con arrived and the TV fired right up. I watched some shows, turned it off. Turned it back back on, watched more shows. So far, so good.

Re: Samsung LN46A550 gamma question
Can't swing a dead cat around the Dallas area without hitting a Samsung with a bad t-con gamma IC. In fact, I picked up another one of the exact same model as this one (which started this thread) to have a matching set in my game room. Graph below.
The TV that started this thread is on the left side (image above), the TV that started this thread is on the right side now (pic above was taken before I hung it). But they're noticeably different in person, so...

Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
My eBay refreshing got the board right after it was posted. Snagged and paid for, we'll see if it resolves things once it arrives.

Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
Here's everything I found on the board (front and back). Extra pics, some of them I know aren't the eeprom but decided that if I was taking pictures I might as well capture everything. Did not take pics of the memory from the solder side of the board....

Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
I'm not able to positively identify which is the eeprom on this board, I took pictures of all of them for future reference. But no matter, as for now I'm keeping an eye out for a t-con. I just keep going back to the other post with absolutely the same symptoms (even the initial successful power on). Now to find one in stock somewhere for a reasonable price.

Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
It is, definitely. If I could find just the eeprom alone, I'd snag that. But for the cost of the entire main board, I'll wait to see how the t-con goes

Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
Yes, those are a 470uf cap and every single one on every board (t-con, main board, etc) have visibly-creased vents. I can't believe that every single one went bad. And I agree - the t-con is cheap at only 40 bucks, and my symptoms are 100% exactly like that other thread (down to the flashing blue LED). So I'll get one ordered.

It's identical to this post:

So unless I can come up with another reason, I'll order a replacement t-con.Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues<br /> ...acement t-con.Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues

Re: XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
Also, in the power supply picture the bottom-most (which is actually right-most since the pics showed up here sideways for some reason) transformer gives a pretty good buzz while it's turned on.

XVT3D554SV - Boot issues
I found this TV noted as "won't turn on" and grabbed it as an upgrade for one of my smaller sets. I got it home, plugged it in and it worked perfectly (see first pic). I does take a very long time for the initial standby to kick in (logo flashes 90-something times before going solid amber).
After about 15 or 20 minutes, I walked back by it and noticed that sound was still on, as was backlight, but the picture was now blank. It would not power off via the remote, so I pulled the power. At this point, I've seen references to this behavior on the internet (and I believe here)...

Re: Samsung LN46A550 gamma question
Great to know. I haven't had that issue on any of my Samsungs, but I'll file it away in case it comes up!

Re: Samsung LN46A550 gamma question
The TV is *finally* in its final resting placeMy son took the 46" 3D LED that I picked up for $80 and only needed a firmware update, so this one went in the game room....

Here's the new gamma voltage curve....

Re: Samsung LN46A550 gamma question
Finally got the board repaired, and the gamma voltages are back to normal. A bit of a drop in the middle, but it must still be within spec as the picture is good. Now to get it hung in my younger son's room, he's already stated that he wants it to replace his 42" Panasonic plasma (my $29 TV - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38935 ).Re: Samsung LN46A550 gamma question<...till be within

Re: Sony KDL-70R550A 5 Blinks
Oh, I misunderstood. Tough spot, then, unless someone is familiar enough to offer step-by-step key presses so you can do it blind.

Re: Sony KDL-70R550A 5 Blinks
See what you can do with a dark room and a flashlight. It'll be tough, but could be worth the hassle. I but I picked up a nice Sony a few weeks ago for one of the bedrooms, it had either a 5 or 6 blink error. Updated the firmware and it's been right as rain since.

Re: VW37L inverter ribbon cable removal
I've worked on the inverters for this same TV, and goontron is correct. Also, check that fuse - I've seen these caps go (I believe they're the 680uf?) and almost always take the fuse with them.
