    LG 55LS4500 - T-Con or Panel?

I have an LG 55LS4500 which I picked up for cheap because all it displayed was a black screen. The sound worked when hooked up to a source. In the lower left corner, there is a lighter patch which can be seen here:

I pulled it all apart and managed to get some images to display by reseating the ribbon cables onto the T-Con board. When both the left and right ribbon cables are hooked up, I generally get a mess of lines which is shown here though sometimes I get the source image, albeit in negative colors.

When I disconnect the left ribbon cable, leaving the right connected, the right side of the screen shows the source in negative with no lines (the left side is black).

When the left ribbon cable is the only one attached, you get a similar display as when both are ribbon cables are connected (the right side is black). There are narrow lines that didn't turn up well in the picture.

I know there a good chance the panel is at the fault. The only reason I haven't pulled it apart and parted it out is because of the weirdness of the T-con. If when only the right ribbon cable is connected, shouldn't you get half the screen perfectly instead of the inverted colors I get? Additionally, the T-con board get VERY hot when the unit is running for a just a few minutes; hot enough that it can definitely burn you if you touch it for more than a split second. There is no visible damage to the board though.

In regards to the light patch on the bottom left side, the panel itself does not appear to be damaged, lines and pixels running through it fine, it just looks to be lighter for some reason. The lines change when the unit is left on but I think it is because of the T-con getting hotter; pressing on the side for of LCD panels does nothing, nor does slight twisting, moving the T-con board or attached cables, or anything else. The longer the TV is on, the worse it gets.

Is it possible the panel is not the culprit and the T-con is in fact the problem Thanks for your help!

    99% panel.

That splotch you will probably find is water damage. The tabs are on the bottom on modern panels, making them extremely vulnerable to water damage. Even just cleaning the screen without getting 100% of the water off the panel lip can damage a modern LED TV.

Removing the ribbons pretty much confirms it. T-con drives both halves with same signal, so it cannot be at fault. The VCOM signal, however, is often generated on one panel side or another from an adjustment potentiometer or a pre-placed resistor network. If that's missing (on the missing side) you can get odd picture artefacts.

Darn. Can't say I'm surprised though I was hoping I could something with this. Looks like I'll just salvage what I can. Thanks for your help!

hello, for some reason i cant start a new thread, but i have lg 55ls4500 that has a picture, but sometimes with various colors flaring out from edges. i can adjust the flares out using advanced settings, but when you select a preset adjustment such as 'movie' , the flare outs come back. tried all inputs and doesnt seem to matter. when i first got the set you could see an image in background from a different input(ex hdmi input is faded in background when switching to av input).
thinking it had to be the main board i replaced it, which seemed to improve the image retention( but can still see for a short time although much dimmer than before)
i began looking a little harder at the power suppl board, and looks like all named voltages are ok, but i am not sure what voltage should be supplying the led panels at the top of the power supply board, right now its around 61V, which does seem a little low to me but just asking if anyone has seen similar problem? or what should those voltages be, is there a chart of typical voltages i can obtain?

Screen shot of what you are seeing will help. You should be able to post your thread now, I believe.

TCL 43S423 TCON OR PANEL FAULTY???
            by netgearnetgear
Good day, I have a TCL TV: Model 43s423. After turning ON the TV, the ROKU TV logo appears with fine lines over the whole screen, then after a while there are vertical bands in the middle of the screen top to bottom and the TV tries to update its firmware but I do not have the remote to connect it to my new network connection. Also the Power ON light blinks 2 times in quick succession. When I remove the ribbon on the right of the tcon board the left side of the screen shows but with fine lines. If I remove the left side ribbon and connect the right side ribbon the whole screen is blank with...

Sharp LC-70LE650U vertical black and red bars
            by ninja_zx11
            Hi all,

70" LED TV is Sharp LC-70LE650U.

Initial problem was horizontal lines and slow motion lurrs on the bottom left of the screen. So I removed both the left and right ribbon cables from the T-con board and tried to clean it with alcohol and when I put it back, this issue appeared. I tried carefully reinserting the ribbon bon cables but same thing. I checked the traces of the ribbon cables with magnifying glass and everything looks good. I cleaned the small jumper ribbon cable on the left side of the screen which cured the horizontal line and slow motion blurs...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
            by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

            having problem with samsung ua55es6800

tv had backlight on, sound working - responds to the remote control but no image.

check tcon board - had 12v in but no other voltages present.
when disconnected left ribbon cable - got back voltages and half image with lines and distorsion

when leaving only left side connected - again no voltages and no image.

put a tape on all (cd?! lines) on the left ribbon cable and got complete but distorted image (horizontal lines).

kept trying to block less pins on the left ribbon cable...

Sony KD-65A1 Repair – 4 Red Blinks Error
            by AK_777
            Hi everyone!
I have a Sony KD-65A1 TV with a fault – 4 red LED blinks. After disassembly and visual inspection, I found that the G76 power board and DKA board had been replaced. It is also possible that TCON was replaced, but I am not sure – there are a few marker marks that could be factory-made.

Based on assumptions, the previous service attempted to solve the issue by replacing potentially faulty components. I decided to investigate further, found a service manual, and figured out a way to power up the power supply unit autonomously and put the OLED panel and...
